According to the representative of the meteorological agency, storm No. 5 Kajiki is forecast to make landfall in the South Thanh Hoa - Ha Tinh area from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on August 25, focusing on Nghe An province.

At 11:30 am today (8.25), Mr. Mai Van Khiem provided the latest information on the situation of storm No. 5 Kajiki.

Storm No. 5 caused very heavy rain, some places over 300mm

According to Mr. Khiem, due to the impact of storm No. 5, on Hainan Island (China), there were strong storm winds of level 14, gusts of level 17, and rain over 400mm/24 hours.

Strong winds have been observed in Nga Son (Thanh Hoa) with strong winds of level 5, gusting to level 7; Hon Ngu station (Nghe An) with strong winds of level 8, gusting to level 11. in Hoanh Son (Ha Tinh) with strong winds of level 7, gusting to level 9, Ky Anh with strong winds of level 7, gusting to level 8; Cam Nhuong station (Ha Tinh) with gusts of level 8; Con Co station (Quang Tri) with strong winds of level 6, gusting to level 8.

Other areas such as Bach Long Vi station (Hai Phong) have strong winds of level 7, gusting to level 9; Co To station (Quang Ninh) has strong winds of level 7, gusting to level 9, Bai Chay station (Quang Ninh) has strong winds of level 6, gusting to level 8.

"However, this is still not the time for the strongest winds due to storm No. 5 Kajiki" - Mr. Khiem said.

According to the Director of the Meteorological Agency, regarding rain, some places have recorded heavy to very heavy rain. Ha Tinh common rainfall is 100-200mm, some places over 300mm such as Ky Lam station 322.8mm, Ky Son station 312mm (3-hour rainfall from 7-10 hours in Cam Xuyen total rainfall 176.2mm/3 hours)

In northern Quang Tri, it is common to have 50-150mm, in some places over 250mm such as Ho Song Thai station 276.2mm, Ho Be station 259.4mm. On the male side, it is common to have 20-40mm, in some places over 70mm such as Vinh Kim station 73.6mm.

Heavy rain is expected to continue today and tomorrow, causing the risk of major floods on rivers in Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, flooding in low-lying areas and urban areas, along with the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas in the North Central region.

Strongest wind from 13:00 - 19:00 today

According to Mr. Khiem, at 10:00 a.m. on August 25, the center of the storm was at about 18.4 degrees north latitude; 106.8, moving west-northwest at 20km/h, 120km from Nghe An, 100km from Ha Tinh, 130km from North Quang Tri (old Quang Binh), level 13-14, gusting to level 16.

"From now until the afternoon when the storm moves into the Ha Tinh - Thanh Hoa sea area, the storm will maintain an intensity of level 14, gusting to level 15-16. When approaching the Ha Tinh - Nghe An coast, the intensity may decrease to level 13 at the beginning of level 14" - Mr. Khiem commented.

However, a representative of the meteorological agency warned that the intensity of level 12-13 when entering the mainland is still very dangerous for unstable infrastructure and houses.

On land, the North Thanh Hoa area has strong winds of level 8-9, gusting to level 10-11. The South Thanh Hoa - North Ha Tinh area has strong winds of 10-11, near the storm center level 12-14, gusting to level 15-16. The strong wind radius above level 12 around the center of the storm is about 50km.

The South Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, coastal areas of the provinces from Quang Ninh to Ninh Binh will have strong winds of level 6-8, gusting to level 9-10.

Deep inland of the South Thanh Hoa - Ha Tinh area, about 50-70km from the coast, strong winds of level 8-9, gusts of level 11-12;

"The time of strong winds will be around 13:00 - 14:00 to 18:00 - 19:00 today" - Mr. Khiem advised.

According to Mr. Khiem, the time the storm will start making landfall is around 4-19 am.

"Landing area: South Thanh Hoa - Ha Tinh, focusing on Nghe An province" - Mr. Khiem said.

According to the Director of the meteorological agency, the most dangerous area is within a radius of 50 km around the center of the storm, with strong winds of level 12 or higher. The directly affected areas include northern Ha Tinh, Nghe An, and southern Thanh Hoa; in which, special attention should be paid to Vinh city, coastal tourist areas such as Cua Lo, Cua Hoi, Nghi Xuan (Ha Tinh) and border communes.

From the morning of August 25 to the end of August 26, the midlands and deltas of the North, the Lao Cai area and from Thanh Hoa to Nghe An will have widespread heavy rain with common rainfall of 100-150mm, locally over 250mm; Thanh Hoa to North Quang Tri will have heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall of 200-400mm, locally over 600mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain with rainfall greater than 200mm/3 hours.

Mr. Mai Van Khiem emphasized that storm No. 5 Kajiki still has many potential dangers of strong winds, big waves, heavy rain and the consequences of flash floods and landslides. The risk of flash floods and landslides in Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Son La... is very high.
