Lam Dong - Vietnam's leading scientists have surveyed to assess, find the causes and propose solutions to support localities in responding to subsidence.

On November 26, the leader of Lam Dong province informed that currently, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has sent an interdisciplinary working group to the site to survey and assess the situation of landslides and subsidence in the locality. From there, propose solutions to support Lam Dong province in responding to natural disasters.

The expert team includes leading Vietnamese experienced scientists in geology, landslides, hydrometeorology and early monitoring and warning technology.

Accordingly, from November 24 to 30, the delegation focused on tasks such as surveying the scope and level of landslides at severely affected areas such as Prenn Pass, Mimosa Pass, D'ran Pass and Khanh Le Pass; analyzing geological, terrain, hydrological factors and artificial impacts that could cause the recent landslide chain.

Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province and geological experts from the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology have conducted a field survey of Lac Thien 2 village (D'ran commune). The results recorded many long cracks on hills such as Trang Bang, Ba La Xanh and Duong Moi area - where prolonged heavy rain caused geological instability.

In the above areas, local authorities and authorities have evacuated a total of 36 households, with more than 160 people, to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hien, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that the work of warning of flash floods and landslides is currently very difficult: "There were times when we had to warn more than 1,000 communes, but in reality, only a few communes had flash floods and landslides".

Through the survey, scientists will propose scientific and technological solutions including construction and non-construction solutions such as risk zoning maps, monitoring systems, and early warning.

The Academy requested the People's Committee of Lam Dong province to coordinate in providing information, data and arranging support forces for the survey to take place quickly and effectively.

Experts warn that unusual heavy rain is causing many steep hills to weaken rapidly, posing a potential risk of landslides at any time.

The authorities recommend that local authorities continue to closely monitor cracks, increase monitoring and proactively evacuate people from dangerous areas to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, from November 17 to 23, Lam Dong experienced prolonged heavy rain, causing many communes and wards of the province to be flooded, causing heavy damage to people and property.
