During a trip on leave to visit his hometown, discovering two young children struggling in a deep pond, Captain Nguyen Huu Dao - an officer of the Order Police Team, An Phu Ward Police (Gia Lai province) did not hesitate to rush down to save the children.
Accordingly, at the beginning of March 2026, Captain Nguyen Huu Dao was granted a permit by the unit to visit relatives in Thanh Hoa. At about 9:30 am on March 8, 2026, while driving a motorbike carrying his son to Hoang Loc commune (Thanh Hoa province) to visit relatives, Captain Nguyen Huu Dao suddenly heard a strange noise coming from a pond near the Thinh Hoa village cultural house.
Captain Nguyen Huu Dao said that after stopping to observe carefully, he discovered two young children hugging each other in the middle of the pond, struggling in a dangerous situation. Not thinking much, he stopped the car, quickly left the two phones and helmets on the shore, and then jumped into the water to rescue the 2 children.
When the 2 young children were brought ashore, Captain Dao noticed that the younger child had signs of cyanosis, posing a life-threatening risk. Captain Dao performed first aid on the spot, and just a few minutes later, the child gradually woke up.
Worried that there were still people in distress, Captain Nguyen Huu Dao returned to the pond, dived to see if anyone was still there. However, he only found a pair of children's sandals and an old set of clothes. When asked again, the eldest child confirmed that there was no one else in the pond, he was reassured to go ashore.
Gia Lai Provincial Police said that recently the unit received a letter from Mr. Le Van Thang (born 1968, Nam Doan Vy village, Hong Loc commune, Thanh Hoa province) thanking Captain Nguyen Huu Dao.
In the letter, Mr. Thang wrote: "On the morning of March 8, 2026, my family is having a wedding. My two grandchildren, L.V. T. D (6 years old) and L.T. L (4 years old), are playing in a pond near the cultural house of Thinh Hoa village, Hoang Loc commune. I really don't dare to think what would happen to my two grandchildren if it weren't for Mr. Dao's rescue.
