Quang Ninh - Hanoi - Quang Ninh high-speed railway is mostly elevated by viaducts, overflow bridges, road overpasses, and railway overpasses.

Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee has just approved the appraisal results of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report of the Hanoi - Quang Ninh High-Speed Railway Project.

The Hanoi - Quang Ninh high-speed railway project is implemented in 4 provinces and cities (Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh), invested by VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company.

The investment scale of the project is to build a double road, 1,435 mm gauge, electrified with a route length of about 120 km (starting point at the National Exhibition Fair Center (Co Loa), Dong Anh commune, Hanoi city and ending point at the Public Park Area, Tuan Chau ward, Quang Ninh province).

In which, the section passing through Hanoi City is about 16 km long; the section passing through Bac Ninh province is about 32 km long; the section passing through Hai Phong City is about 33 km long; the section passing through Quang Ninh province is about 39 km long. The total investment is 147.370 billion VND, excluding about 10,270 billion VND of site clearance compensation costs guaranteed by the state budget.

The design speed of the main route is 350 km/h, the section passing through Hanoi has a design speed of 120 km/h.

The route is about 120km long, of which the elevated railway section on the ground is about 4 km long; the elevated railway section is about 116 km structured with viaducts, overflow bridges, road overpasses, railway overpasses and arranging access roads to stations and depots.

The main construction items on the route include 9 bridges over rivers: Duong River, Thai Binh River, Kinh Thay River (3 sections), Da Vach River, Sinh River, Uong River, Hot River; railway overpasses, existing roads, planned roads.

5 stations include: Co Loa Station, in Dong Anh commune, Hanoi, area of about 35.58 ha; Gia Binh Station, in Lam Thao commune, Bac Ninh province, area of about 7.48 ha; Ninh Xa Station, in Bac An Phu ward, Hai Phong city, area of about 7.14 ha; Yen Tu Station, in Yen Tu ward, Quang Ninh province, area of about 10.6 ha; Ha Long Xanh Station, in Tuan Chau ward, Quang Ninh province, area of about 37.88 ha; 1 depot at the end point of Ha Long Xanh station, Tuan Chau ward, Quang Ninh, area of about 34.32 ha; 1 train parking lot at Co Loa Station, Dong Anh commune, Hanoi, area of about 6.12 ha.

According to the design, to build a series of viaducts, overflow bridges, road overpasses, railway overpasses..., there will be more than 3,400 bridge piers on the entire route. In which, the section through Hanoi has 455 bridge piers; the section through Bac Ninh province has about 909 bridge piers; the section through Hai Phong city has about 938 bridge piers; the section through Quang Ninh province has about 1108 bridge piers.

The Hanoi - Quang Ninh high-speed railway project is expected to start construction on April 12, 2026, at the construction site of Ha Long Xanh station (belonging to Tuan Chau and Viet Hung wards, Quang Ninh province).

The project is expected to be put into operation in 2028.
