Dedicated care of stray fish
Coming to Cu Lao May, Tra On district, Vinh Long province, we could not help but be excited by the image of thousands of fishermen being cared for and protected by Mr. Tran Minh Ven (Tra On, Vinh Long) on the riverbank of his house.
Mr. Ven said that he discovered a natural fish herd of more than 1,000 fish (mainly pangasius, sesame and some other freshwater fish) appearing in the river wharf in front of his house around the end of June 2024.
At first, it was just a normal natural phenomenon. But after a period of observation, it was found that the flock of fish did not only stop but also chose the river wharf area in front of their house as their accommodation.

Realizing the attachment of the fishermen to this space, he decided to nurture them, considering it a simple joy after every tiring work session. Up to now, the fish herd has developed in large numbers.
"Every day, to raise the fish herd, we have to spend about 500,000 VND on food. However, recently, many people have come to visit and contributed money to buy fish feed," Mr. Ven added.
Among those who contributed money to fish farming was Mr. Pham Van Khuong (Ho Chi Minh City).Mr. Khuong said that when he heard about the appearance of a herd of fish on the riverbank of his friend's house, he decided to feed the fish every day and keep the herd, ensuring they are safe and thrive well.
Actions to protect wild fish herds like this not only help protect the ecosystem but also contribute to creating a sustainable living space for all creatures, Mr. Khuong added.
Sustainable protection of aquatic resources
Speaking to Lao Dong newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Chi Hieu - Vice Chairman of Tra On District People's Committee - said that he highly appreciated Mr. Tran Minh Ven's actions in protecting aquatic products, considering it a typical example of the connection between people and nature in the context of increasingly depleted aquatic resources.
According to Mr. Hieu, Mr. Ven's dedication to caring for the wild fish herd not only shows love for nature but also demonstrates the spirit of protecting and sustainably developing natural resources, contributing to building a more aware community in environmental protection.

In addition to Mr. Tran Minh Ven's efforts, the local government is committed to stepping up propaganda work to the people about not using destructive fishing methods such as electric pulses or scraping nets.
"I hope the community will join hands to protect the environment, protect aquatic resources for sustainable development and create a healthy living environment," Mr. Hieu added.
