For 9 years, Ms. Thuan has persistently implemented projects to accompany and help young children who unfortunately suffer from dangerous diseases.
Ms. Thuan (born in 1987, Nghe An) was diagnosed with blood cancer at the age of 18. For 7 years afterwards, during the treatment process, she once fell into a state of depression, loss of direction...
Ms. Thuan shared that she still maintains studying in parallel with treatment. In the first two years, studying faced many difficulties because she did not see the future ahead, lacked motivation... From the third year onwards, she began to think about the possibility of recovery and tried harder. “I found my academic results at that time too bad, then thought maybe I would be lucky to recover, my graduation diploma could not be bad...”, Ms. Thuan said.
In 2012, Ms. Thuan was performed a bone marrow transplant by doctors at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. The successful bone marrow transplant marked an important turning point in her life.
Overcoming difficult times thanks to receiving the sharing and encouragement of everyone around, Ms. Thuan felt the need to do something to continue doing kind things. In 2016, after her health stabilized, she returned to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion as a volunteer at the Department of Pediatric Blood Diseases.
At the Department of Children's Blood Diseases, there is a library and a small classroom, so I decided to spend time playing, talking, drawing, practicing writing... with the children. Occasionally, a few close friends also participate. I also write newspapers, write plays, and whenever I have royalties, I save them to give gifts to the children," Ms. Thuan shared.

From personal experiences and conversations with parents of pediatric patients, Ms. Thuan understands the material and spiritual pressures they are facing. In 2019, she proposed to the Social Work Department of the Institute to implement the "Mother's Hands" project.
Participating in the project, mothers who are taking care of sick children are taught to embroidery and make handicrafts. When quality products are sold, Ms. Thuan will pay for them, thereby helping them have additional small income, reducing worries during childcare. Part of the profit from the "Mother's Hands" project is allocated to the "Wish for You" scholarship project. In 2025 alone, the program awarded 40 scholarships to children in difficult circumstances, each worth 5 million VND.
In 2021, Ms. Thuan established the "For Children with Cancer" network to make volunteer activities more systematic. In addition to ongoing projects such as: "Seedling Class", "Mother's Hands"... the network also organizes programs to give gifts to pediatric patients on International Children's Day, Mid-Autumn Festival...
Ms. Thuan said that during the process of establishing and operating the network, she did not call for sponsorship, did not ask for organizations, and did not post treatment images of pediatric patients. From 2016 to now, she has used the network's private page to post project activities, as a way to save memories for parents and for herself.
At the same time, in October 2022, Ms. Thuan built the "Dream Hair Station" project. To date, the project has had more than 25,000 hair donations, these hairs have been donated to patients and pediatric patients at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Central Oncology Hospital...
On the journey of contributing to children with cancer, Ms. Hoang Thi Dieu Thuan hopes that she will learn and accumulate more new knowledge, opening up more broad opportunities, thereby creating a solid foundation for her to continue implementing projects, continuing to write dreams for children with cancer. “I want to continue working, accompanying people who share the desire to help them. During the process of supporting them, I received a lot of love and trust from everyone. This is the motivation for me to try harder in the following years,” Ms. Thuan said.
With her contributions, Ms. Hoang Thi Dieu Thuan was awarded a certificate of merit by the Central Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the "National Volunteer Award 2025".
