Phu Huu commune (An Giang province) borders Cambodia, where people's lives are still difficult. Most people live by farming and small-scale fishing, income is precarious, and depends heavily on weather and markets.
In recent years, Phu Huu commune has become a familiar destination for many charity activities. Gifts including rice, noodles, necessities... are given regularly and promptly to help people overcome difficult times. One of the most noticeable changes in Phu Huu commune is the rural transportation system. Previously, many inter-hamlet roads were seriously degraded, the road surface was protruding, potholes were dense, causing countless obstacles for people to travel and transport agricultural products.

Mr. Vo Van Tung (resident of Vinh Phuoc hamlet, Phu Huu commune, An Giang province) said: "The inter-hamlet road is degraded, people travel very hard. There are sections that are heavily damaged, but the local budget is still limited. From that reality, in 2023, the road repair team was established. Seeing us working, people also joined hands to contribute funds to buy stone and cement. Thanks to that, road repairs are maintained more regularly.
According to Mr. Tung, from the early days, only a few hundred meters of road have been repaired, and now many concrete roads have been renovated and upgraded, making people's travel more convenient. Clear roads not only reduce transportation costs but also create conditions for trade and business to be more convenient.
If the road is good, people can do business. Repairing the road is to help people for a long time, not just temporary support," Mr. Tung shared.
In parallel with the repair of transport infrastructure, many charitable activities in Phu Huu also focus on supporting housing for households in difficult circumstances. Temporary houses with dilapidated leaf walls are gradually being replaced with solid corrugated iron roofs. Although the value of each house is not large, for people in border areas, it is a dream of settling down.
Ms. Ho Thi My Trinh (resident of Vinh Phuoc hamlet, Phu Huu commune) confided: "Previously, rain and wind caused house leaks, making living very inconvenient. Thanks to support, I have a decent house to live in. Now I can feel secure in doing business, no longer worried about storms and floods.
Mr. Tran Van Pho - Head of the Executive Board of Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha, Phu Huu commune (An Giang province) - said that in 2025, the Executive Board built and repaired 45 houses for households with housing difficulties. From the beginning of 2026 to now, the unit has continued to support building 5 more houses for people in the area.
In addition, in 2025, the Executive Board of Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha of Phu Huu commune also organized the repair of about 15 km of inter-hamlet rural roads, with a total cost of more than 118 million VND, from mobilized contributions from people and philanthropists.

Ms. Lam Thi Ngoc Giau - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Huu commune (An Giang province) - said that the work of mobilizing and coordinating charity activities in the area is always of particular concern to the locality. “We identify charity activities as an important social resource, contributing to the state's care for social security. However, activities must go in the right direction, to the right people and be linked to the actual needs of the people,” Ms. Giau emphasized.
According to Ms. Giau, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Huu commune plays a bridging role between charity groups and people, and at the same time advises Party committees and authorities in selecting projects and priority tasks such as road repair, house construction, and livelihood support.
Thanks to the joint efforts of philanthropists and the Executive Board of Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha of Phu Huu commune, the face of Phu Huu commune is increasingly prosperous. People are excited and more confident in social security policies and community solidarity in border areas," Ms. Giau assessed.
