On July 25, leaders of La Gi Regional General Hospital (Lam Dong province) said that two hospital staff members and a resident promptly donated blood to save a patient in critical condition.
Previously, on the evening of July 24, patient N.T. V. (born 1988, residing in Son My commune) was taken to La Gi Regional General Hospital for emergency treatment after having her lawnmower blade broken and piercing her abdomen.
The patient had torn both sides of the stomach, punctured three positions in the small intestine, damaged blood vessels that nourish the left colon and was admitted to the hospital in a state of low blood pressure.
The surgical team immediately resuscitated, infused fluids, transfused blood and performed emergency surgery to stop the bleeding, stitched wounds in the stomach and intestines. During the surgery, at many times the patient's blood pressure could not be measured. Doctors had to continuously transfuse blood to maintain life.
When the hospital issued an urgent notice to find people with compatible blood types, Mr. Tran Minh Tri, Mr. Ngo Nhat Minh - staff of the Testing Department and Mr. Truong Duc Hien - Red Cross Society of Tan Hai commune immediately volunteered to donate blood.
The timely blood supply helped the surgical team transfuse a total of 10 units of blood, including 7 units of depositioned red blood cells and 3 units of total blood.
After more than 5 hours of surgery, the patient was out of danger and was safely transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for further treatment.
According to the leader of La Gi Regional General Hospital, the emergency blood donation gesture of two medical staff and people contributed to helping the emergency surgery to be successful, adding more life opportunities for patients.
