On April 29, Hue Central Hospital announced that it had successfully performed 6 organ transplants from a brain-dead donor, including heart, liver, 2 kidneys and 2 corneas, saving 6 patients with severe illnesses. The transplants were deployed from April 16 to 18 with the participation of nearly 200 doctors and technicians from many specialties.
Previously, on April 15, the Organ Transplant Center of Hue Central Hospital received an organ donation request from the family of patient M.D. T (44 years old, residing in Hue). The patient was admitted to the hospital in a state of severe traumatic brain injury due to an accident, deep coma, and poor prognosis.
After the professional council confirmed the brain death of the patient on April 16, the hospital reported to the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center to select a suitable recipient in the waiting list for transplantation.
At exactly 8:45 PM on the same day, after the memorial service to thank the organ donor, the medical team simultaneously deployed surgery at 5 operating rooms under the direct direction of Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of Hue Central Hospital.
According to Hue Central Hospital, by April 27, the health of organ transplant patients had improved. Heart transplant patients were awake, able to eat and drink, and heart function was stable. Liver transplant recipients recovered well, and bilirubin levels returned to normal.
Both kidney transplant patients are awake, kidney function is positively improved. Two patients who previously had corneal transplants and completely lost vision have partially recovered their vision and were discharged from the hospital on April 18.
In one week, Hue Central Hospital successfully performed 14 tissue and organ transplants including 1 heart, 1 liver, 10 kidneys and 2 corneas.
Representatives of the hospital sent deep gratitude to the organ donor and his family who turned the loss into hope, bringing new life opportunities for many patients.
