The young man (26 years old), residing in Uong Bi ward, Quang Ninh province, suffered severe traumatic brain injury due to a traffic accident.
On April 4, the patient was admitted to the emergency room in critical condition.
Although doctors and nurses actively treated him, the patient did not survive.
After many consultations according to professional procedures, it was determined that the patient had brain death.

In the pain of loss, the family decided to donate the tissues and organs of their loved one to medicine. This act of gratitude has brought a chance of survival to 7 other patients.
According to the young man's relatives, when he was alive, the patient was gentle, emotional, and loved by his family and colleagues.
At 2:30 PM on April 6th, the multi-organ transplant was deployed with the coordination of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital and Central Eye Hospital.
The surgery lasted about 5 hours, mobilizing nearly 100 medical staff, with 4 operating rooms operating simultaneously.
The organs removed included the heart, liver, kidney and two corneas. After removal, the organs were preserved, coordinated and urgently transported to central-level medical facilities for transplantation for 5 patients waiting.
At Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital alone, two kidneys were transplanted to 2 patients. Currently, the patient's health is progressing well and is being monitored and actively cared for.

One of the two people who received kidney transplants is a 19-year-old young man, residing in Quang Ninh province, suffering from end-stage chronic kidney failure, who had to undergo hemodialysis for a long time. The family has repeatedly sought sources of organ donation but has not had results.
The mother of the 19-year-old male patient emotionally shared: "The noble gesture of the organ donor's family has opened up opportunities for my son to live, study and work. Thank you very much to the family.
Dr. Tran Anh Cuong - Director of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital - said that this is not only a professional success but also a story rich in human values, spreading the spirit of sharing in the community. The hospital expresses deep gratitude to the organ donor's family.
From the first organ donation case in 2024 to now, Quang Ninh has recorded 3 organ donation cases, contributing to saving many patients with dangerous diseases.
The passing of the 26-year-old young man is a great loss for his family. However, from a humane decision, life has been continued in a different way, contributing to igniting faith and compassion in society.
