Ms. Pham Thi Linh Trang (born in 2002, residing in Duong Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province) has just sent a letter of thanks to the Duong Thuy commune police force for promptly helping and supporting the recovery of assets misappropriated online.
According to Ms. Trang, on February 1, 2025, she lost a personal mobile phone. On February 4, a strange Facebook account texted her, claiming to be a student, saying that he had picked up her phone.
However, this person later asked her to quickly transfer 5 million VND to return it, giving the reason "they had gambled all the money". Because she was a bit surprised and hoped to get her phone back soon, Ms. Trang transferred 2 million VND in advance. Immediately after receiving the money, the subject immediately blocked contact and disappeared.
Realizing that there were signs of being scammed, Ms. Trang quickly went to report to Duong Thuy Commune Police. As soon as the information was received, the Commune Police verified and conducted an investigation. After only about 4 hours, by 5:00 p.m. the same day, the authorities identified the scammer as a woman and proceeded to recover the property and return it to the victim.
In a letter of thanks to the police force, Ms. Trang wrote: Since the police have become a commune, the security and order situation in the locality has become increasingly stable. The quick and effective treatment makes people extremely assured".
Quang Binh Provincial Police recommends that people be vigilant when conducting transactions and contacting strangers online. When detecting unusual signs or suspected fraud, you should immediately report to the nearest police agency for timely support and handling.
At the same time, each citizen also needs to raise awareness of protecting personal information and proactively equip themselves with knowledge to prevent technology crimes.
