People in Tra My commune, Da Nang are busy cooking cakes to send to flood areas

Trà Ban |

Members of farmers' and women's associations in the mountainous areas of Tra My and Da Nang have packed cakes together and sent them to people in the flooded areas of the South Central region.

These days, floods continue to cause heavy damage in many localities in the Central and Central Highlands. While Phu Yen (Dak Lak), Binh Dinh (Gia Lai province), Khanh Hoa... are struggling to cope with major floods. People across the country are turning to people in flooded areas with many timely and meaningful sharing activities.

In the Tra My mountainous area, Da Nang - where people have also experienced consecutive landslides, housework, and heavy losses in human lives and property after storms No. 12 and 13. Currently, many residential areas are still isolated, roads are littered with mud, and landslides and traffic jams have not been fixed. Difficulties are still piling up.

However, amid that chaos, the affection of the people in Tra My has increased in a simple, sympathetic way. The Women's Union and the Farmers' Association of Tra My commune have jointly organized a package of nearly 2,000 sticky rice cakes to send to the flooded areas of Phu Yen (Dak Lak) and Binh Dinh (Gia Lai province). Each cake is meticulously wrapped and simmered to contain shares. Everyone gathered in one place, divided into waffles, boiled leaves, wiped leaves, wrapped leaves, tied ropes... Then they cooked the cakes together. Although each stage is small, everyone works in the spirit of supporting our compatriots in distress.

The first batches of cakes that had just been tied were immediately put into the stove, as if to collect the warmth of the people of Tra My and send them to the families who were being surrounded by floodwaters.

In difficult times, my heart is even warmer. They deeply understand the feeling of loss, because they have also experienced hardships and received a lot of support from the whole country. Tra Leng, Tra Doc, Tra Tan... in Tra My country are the names that often appear on the "map" of landslides, tornadoes that have left dozens of houses unfinished... with many losses due to natural disasters.

Not only stopping at wrapping cakes, many members in the commune also proactively donated cash for the Women's Union of the commune to buy more necessities to send to flood areas. Essential necessities such as instant noodles, milk, bread, drinking water, fever-reducing medicine, used clothes... are continuing to be gathered. The Association plans to use the next contribution to buy more money to send on the next trip.

The spirit of "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves" is not a slogan but a specific action every time our compatriots encounter difficulties. Tra My people shared: in the recent storms, they have received a lot of help from all over, and now is the time for them to respond to that kindness. Although they themselves are still facing the risk of landslides and shortages, that does not prevent them from joining hands to support more difficult areas.

In the midst of the continuous flood season, the love cakes from Tra My are not just food. That is the sentiment, the encouragement, the message that Vietnamese people are always together in times of trouble. That is also the strength for people in flooded areas to be more confident in overcoming difficult days.

Millions of arms turn to compatriots affected by storms and floods

Consecutive storms and floods caused by storms have caused many deaths, missing people, and injuries; many houses and production and business establishments have had their roofs blown off and suffered heavy damage. People across the Central and Northern mountainous provinces are struggling day and night to cope with floods and heavy losses in human lives and property that cannot be mentioned...

"A piece of food when hungry is worth a package when full", with the spirit of mutual love that has always been a beautiful image of the Vietnamese people, the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund calls on domestic and foreign philanthropists to join hands to share with people affected by floods to have food, clothing, shelter, students have books to go to school...
