The Duong River waterway upgrade project approved for investment by the Ministry of Transport (now the Ministry of Construction) includes 2 construction packages: railway bridge (XL01) and road bridge (XL02), with a total investment of nearly VND 1,850 billion.
The new railway bridge is about 1 km long, about 16.5 m upstream from the old Duong bridge center. The bridge is designed for a single-track railway with a gauge of 1,000 mm and 1,435 mm, with a design speed of 80 km/h.
The new Duong road bridge starts at the old Duong bridge intersection on Ngo Gia Tu street (Viet Hung ward), the end point is at the intersection between Ha Huy Tap street and Phan Dang Luu street (Phu Dong commune), about 700 m long, about 100 m downstream from the old Duong bridge center.

Regarding construction and installation, the Railway Project Management Board (Ministry of Construction - investor) said that the current packages have completed the pillars under the river.
In particular, package XL01 (Duong railway bridge) has completed the main bridge piers; 3/6 abutments of overpasses; 3/6 sections of reinforced concrete retaining walls; about 80% of retaining wall items have corks; signal information has been moved to step 1 - phase 1. At the same time, complete the installation of a 100m and 40m girder at the location, install safety markings and temporary railway soil filling.
Currently, package XL01 is installing a 35m (N2) girder outside the construction site. The output reached 51% of the contract value. Package XL01 has been delayed in the underpass and main bridge abutments M1 and 2.

Package XL02 (Duong Road Bridge) has completed pillars T3, T4, T5 towers; casting SuperT 4/28 beams, the output reached 50.26% of the contract value.
Currently, contractors are constructing canals at the T4 and T5 pillars in the middle of the river and completing the arch tower.

The Railway Project Management Board said that to have a site for the project, it is necessary to reclaim a land area of 4.96 hectares, of which Viet Hung ward has 3.33 hectares/53 households (43 resettlement households) and Phu Dong commune has 1.63 hectares (1.63 hectares/89 households (70 resettlement households). The total number of households to be resettled is 113 households.
Up to now, the locality has only handed over 0.4ha (8%), so the contractor has only been able to construct the site within the dike, under the Duong River. For the remainder, Phu Dong commune has approved and paid compensation to 42/88 households; Viet Hung ward paid to 28/58 households.

Due to problems in site clearance, in October 2025, the Ministry of Construction had to approve an adjustment to the project, postponing the completion time to 2026 (instead of 2025 as originally planned).
The investor also sent an official dispatch requesting Hanoi City to direct relevant units to urgently speed up the site clearance progress, ensuring the project's construction progress.
