On March 3, Dak To Commune People's Committee said it had just organized a surprise commendation for an individual who bravely rescued a drowning person in the area.
The person commended is Ms. Nguyen Thi Que (born 1978, residing in Dien Binh 3 village, Dak To commune) for promptly rescuing people in a drowning incident that occurred at about 3:45 pm on February 18, 2026 in a river section in Dien Binh 3 village.
Previously, a group of 5 young men rowed a boat on the river. When about 200m from the shore, P.C. T (born 2000, residing in Dien Binh 3 village, Dak To commune) and V.T. V (born 2001, residing in Kon Tu Dop 2 village, Dak To commune) jumped off the boat to swim. After swimming about 10m, V.T. V drowned; P.C. T returned to rescue but due to panic, both struggled in the middle of the river.
Seeing this, N.T. D (born in 1999, residing in Dien Binh 3 village, Dak To commune) jumped down to support, hugged V.T. V and swam ashore, creating conditions for P.C. T to escape. However, due to exhaustion, N.T. D and V.T. V continued to fall into a dangerous situation.
Discovering the incident, Ms. Nguyen Thi Que quickly rowed a boat to rescue, directly rescuing N.T. D and V.T. V and bringing them ashore safely.
When Ms. Que returned to rescue P.C. T, the victim had disappeared. On the morning of February 21, P.C. T's body was found by functional forces and handed over to the family for burial.
Before Ms. Que's courageous and timely action to save people in a dangerous situation, leaders of Dak To Commune People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to commend her spirit of responsibility for the community.
