HUE - More than 117 years old, the Bach Ho - Da Vien railway bridge has been sent to the harbor by ship carrying rocks 3 times in just one week of floods.

The two railway bridges Bach Ho and Da Vien are parallel to the Da Vien road bridge, spanning the Huong River, connecting Phu Xuan ward with Thuan Hoa of Hue city. This is a cluster of works that plays a particularly important role in the operation of the North-South railway through the Central region.

According to documents, the Hue - Quang Tri railway line was established in 190 and the bridge was built with a steel structure. Initially, both sections were named Da Vien Bridge because they both crossed a small island of the same name in the middle of the river.

During the historic flood that began on October 27, the water level of the Huong River rose, forcing the railway industry to mobilize trains carrying rocks to the embankment to protect the bridge. On the morning of October 29, when the floodwaters on the Huong River receded, the two trains were withdrawn. But by the evening of October 29, when the weather continued to get worse, the two trains were brought back to reinforce.

After that, the two trains withdrew from the bridge. At 2:00 p.m. on November 3, floodwaters rose again, forcing the railway industry to dispatch trains for the third time and continuing to increase the weight of the Bach Ho - Da Vien bridge.

The bridge was painted black when it was first built, then changed to white as it is today. During the war, the project was broken twice in 1946 and Mau Than 1968

After decades of suffering from the sun and rain, many wooden planks have rotted and degraded.

Since the late 1990s, the bridge has been severely damaged and was majorly renovated in the period of 1998 - 2000 with support from Japan.
Hien hai ben cau van co loi di danh cho phuong tien tho so. Sau hon 117 nam, cum cau nay van la mot phan quan trong trong ky uc do thi Hue va trong van hanh cua tuyen duong sat quoc gia.
Currently, there are still paths for rudimentary vehicles on both sides of the bridge. After more than 117 years, this bridge cluster is still an important part of Hue urban memory and the operation of the national railway line.
