HCMC - National Highway 22 (from An Suong intersection to Ring Road 3) 8.7 km long through District 12 and Hoc Mon district will be expanded to 60 m with 10 lanes.

National Highway 22 is the only Northwest gateway connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Moc Bai international border gate (Tay Ninh), playing an important role in trade with ASEAN countries.

According to people living on both sides of this road, traffic jams on Highway 22 occur frequently, especially during rush hours. "Traffic jams are severe during rush hours, while other times are less severe. The worst jams are in the car lane, and on rainy days, the car lane jams can stretch for kilometers," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (District 12).

According to the project's initial pre-feasibility study report, the 8.7 km long section of National Highway 22, starting at An Suong intersection (District 12) and ending at Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 (Hoc Mon district), is being studied for 3 expansion options with a cross-section of 60 m and 10 lanes.
Phuong an 1 (khoang 8.400 ti dong): Mo rong duong len 60m voi 10 lan xe, giao cat khac muc bang cau vuot. Uu diem la thi cong de dang, thoi gian thuc hien nhanh, chi phi xay dung thap nhat (2.571 ti dong). Nhuoc diem la mat do cau vuot day (1km/1 cau) lam anh huong den canh quan kien truc do thi va gay bat tien cho luu thong.
Option 1 (about 8,400 billion VND): Expand the road to 60m with 10 lanes, different-level intersections with overpasses. The advantages are easy construction, fast implementation time, lowest construction cost (2,571 billion VND). The disadvantage is that the high density of overpasses (1km/1 bridge) affects the urban architectural landscape, causing inconvenience for traffic.
Phuong an 2 (khoang 10.000 ti dong): Mo rong duong tuong tu nhung giao cat khac muc bang ham chui. Uu diem la giam tac dong den canh quan va tieng on, dam bao my quan do thi. Nhuoc diem, ham chui day (1km/1 ham) van gay khong em thuan khi luu thong, dong thoi chi phi xay dung cao hon phuong an 1 (3.978 ti dong), kem theo chi phi khai thac va van hanh lon.
Option 2 (about 10,000 billion VND): Expand the same road but at different levels by using an underpass. The advantage is to reduce the impact on the landscape and noise, ensuring urban aesthetics. The disadvantage is that the dense underpass (1km/1 tunnel) still causes inconvenience when traveling, and the construction cost is higher than option 1 (3,978 billion VND), along with high exploitation and operation costs.
Phuong an 3 (khoang 11.871 ti dong): Ket hop 6 lan xe mat dat va 4 lan xe tren cao. Uu diem la luu thong em thuan nhat, co dai xanh rong 14m, thuan tien thi cong metro di noi trong tuong lai va kha nang mo rong them 2 lan xe. Nhuoc diem la tieng on anh huong den nha dan, chi phi xay dung cao nhat trong ba phuong an (5.494 ti dong).
Option 3 (about 11,871 billion VND): Combines 6 ground lanes and 4 elevated lanes. The advantages are the smoothest traffic, a 14 m wide green strip, convenient for future construction of an above-ground metro and the possibility of expanding to 2 more lanes. The disadvantages are noise affecting residents' homes, and the highest construction cost of the three options (5,494 billion VND).

TPHCM du kien hoan thanh bao cao nghien cuu tien kha thi vao cuoi nam 2024 hoac dau nam 2025, sau do chon nha dau tu de trien khai tu nam 2025 den nam 2028.
Ho Chi Minh City plans to complete the pre-feasibility study report by the end of 2024 or early 2025, then select investors to implement from 2025 to 2028.
