Hue officially becomes a city directly under the Central Government

On the morning of January 1, 2025, the Resolution establishing Hue City under the Central Government officially took effect. Thua Thien Hue Province became Hue City under the Central Government and is the 6th centrally-governed city of Vietnam. Other centrally-governed cities include: Hanoi Capital, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang City, Can Tho City and Hai Phong City.

Previously, on the evening of December 29, 2024, at Ngo Mon Square, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man presented the National Assembly's Resolution on the establishment of Hue City under the Central Government to the leaders of Thua Thien Hue province, marking a historical milestone of this locality.

Thus, from January 1, 2025, Hue City under the Central Government was established on the basis of the entire natural area of 4,947.11 km² and population of 1,236,393 people of Thua Thien Hue province. Hue will have 9 district-level administrative units (DAUs) including 2 districts, 3 towns, 4 districts and 133 commune-level DAUs.
