Suffocating due to dust pollution from the Tam Trinh road construction site

The Tam Trinh Street expansion project (Hoang Mai, Hanoi) is under construction, so many areas of the project have become suffocating due to dust pollution.
Since the end of July 2024, after Hoang Mai District (Hanoi) handed over a part of the cleared site, the contractor, Truong Son 97 Branch (Truong Son Construction Corporation), has mobilized human resources and machinery to carry out the construction of expanding Tam Trinh Street. However, because the construction area is located close to the road with high traffic density, a lot of dust is emitted to the outside.According to Lao Dong's records on January 8, 2025, along Tam Trinh Street, there were many places littered with sacks of construction waste and household waste illegally dumped on the roadside.Construction material gathering points for the expansion of Tam Trinh Street are not covered, causing dust to fly up every time a vehicle passes by.Mr. Le Hong Co (residing on Tam Trinh Street, Hoang Mai) - shared that, in addition to construction workers clearing the road, gathering machinery and construction materials, many rows of houses are being demolished, making the air around this area even more stuffy and dusty.Meanwhile, Anh Vu Viet Ha (a technology driver) - who often passes through the Tam Trinh road opening project area - said that not only is there a thick layer of dust from the construction site, but the illegal dumping of waste, garbage and litter along the road also makes the environment more polluted.“Right next to the construction site is the black Kim Nguu River. The dust from the construction site combined with the stench from the river makes people passing by feel extremely stuffy,” said Mr. Ha.According to local residents, the project will require excavation and construction, which will affect traffic, the environment, and people's livelihoods. Tam Trinh Street is also considered an important road in Hoang Mai District, with a large volume of people and vehicles.According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Vinh (representative of the Project Management Board), because of the need to ensure traffic while carrying out construction, the unit encountered many difficulties. In addition, the situation of people illegally dumping waste into the project area made it difficult for the contractor to mobilize human resources and machinery to clean up. Every few days, the contractor had to collect garbage and construction waste, but as soon as they finished cleaning, many locations were flooded with waste again, especially in the area on the right side of the Kim Nguu River.
In recent days, Hanoi has been heavily polluted. According to the Department of Environmental Pollution Control (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), air pollution is seasonal (from around October - November of the previous year, lasting until April of the following year) and is mainly concentrated in some areas with high traffic density and many production facilities. During the day, the pollution level also fluctuates, concentrated between 6-8am and 5-7pm.
The causes of air pollution have been identified, focusing on a number of main emission sources, including: transportation activities and construction activities...
