Hai Phong - Before Tet, many peach blossom gardens in Dang Cuong (An Duong, Hai Phong) withered. Farmers sadly saw peach branches worth millions of dong now turned into piles of dry firewood.

On the morning of November 18, the Ma May and Ban Tai peach blossom fields in Dang Cuong commune, An Duong district were deserted and desolate.

Than tho giua vuon dao, ba Hoang Thi Huong, thon Hoa Nhat, xa Dang Cuong cho biet, gia dinh ba Huong co 200 goc dao da, hon 100 goc dao the, den nay, chi con khoang 20 goc co kha nang ban duoc dip Tet nguyen dan nay.
Standing absent-mindedly in the middle of her peach blossom garden, Ms. Hoang Thi Huong, Hoa Nhat village, Dang Cuong commune, said that her family has 200 stone peach trees and more than 100 bonsai peach trees. Up to now, only about 20 trees can be sold this Lunar New Year.

“Bao Yagi do bo, vuon nha toi “bay” khoang 1/3 goc, nhung dot lut sau bao khien ca vuon dao chet trang, chi con vai goc trong tren khu dat cao con song sot. Thiet hai vuon dao 4 sao cua gia dinh khoang 600 trieu dong” - ba Huong cho biet.
“When Typhoon Yagi hit, about a third of my garden’s trees were “blown away”, but the flood after the storm killed the entire peach blossom garden, leaving only a few trees planted on high ground. The damage to my family’s 4-sao peach garden is about 600 million VND,” said Ms. Huong.
Cung theo ba Huong, gia dinh ba chua phai ho bi thiet hai nang ne nhat. Nhieu ho mat trang, phai dao goc chat dong o vuon, thiet hai den tien ti.
According to Ms. Huong, her family was not the most severely damaged household. Many households lost everything, had to dig up roots and pile them up in the garden, causing billions of dong in damage.
Trong so nhung ho “mat trang” vu dao Tet, co ho ong Do Van Phan (61 tuoi, thon Hoa Nhat). Vuon dao hon 3 sao den nay khong con 1 goc nao, thiet hai khoang nua ti dong.
Among the households that “lost” the entire Tet peach blossom crop, there was Mr. Do Van Phan (61 years old, Hoa Nhat village). His peach garden of more than 3 sao now has no “surviving” tree, causing a loss of about half a billion VND.

7
"Every year, my family rents out each peach blossom tree for 4-5 million VND/tree, and if we sell it, we can earn tens of millions of VND. In 30 years of growing peach trees, my family has never lost the entire garden like this year," Mr. Phan lamented.
Nhung goc dao chet kho duoc gia dinh ong Phan dao len, chat thanh dong cui de dot dan, do mat cong van chuyen di noi khac. “Nhin goc dao tien trieu chay rui, vo chong toi chi biet dong vien nhau” - ong Phan cho hay.
The dead peach trees were dug up by Mr. Phan’s family and piled up into firewood to burn gradually, saving the effort of transporting them elsewhere. “Looking at the million-dollar peach tree burning, my wife and I could only encourage each other,” said Mr. Phan.
t
According to the representative of Dang Cuong Commune People's Committee (An Duong District), the whole commune has nearly 80 hectares of peach growing area. In the 2024 Tet crop, the revenue from growing peach blossom trees for Tet is more than 60 billion VND. However, due to the impact of Typhoon Yagi as well as flooding after the storm, more than 60 hectares of peach blossom trees were damaged (trees died, could not be harvested), the remaining 20 hectares could be sold to the market. After the storm, the locality counted and summarized the damage from households, reported to the District People's Committee to make a list of people to support according to regulations with the desire to share and encourage the people.
9
In addition to Dang Cuong commune (An Duong district), peach blossom growing areas in Dai Dong commune (Kien Thuy district) are also in the same situation of withering and withering before Tet.
8
The peach garden that flourished every year was suddenly covered with weeds, the peach trees were bare and withered.
gng
Many households in the peach garden of Dai Dong commune have started looking to buy peach blossom roots to replant their gardens for the next crop.
ue
In Dang Cuong commune, households that still have a few peach blossom trees, such as Hoang Thi Huong's family, are trying to take care of them for the Tet peach blossom season. People hope to receive support and care from the government soon to compensate for the damage caused by storms and floods. At the same time, they hope that the weather from now until Tet will be favorable for the peach blossom trees to bloom and have good prices.
