Just heavy rain, residential areas near Cai Khe boat dock project are deeply flooded, streets become rivers, houses become reservoirs. Households have to cope with flood water, extremely miserable.
This area has never been flooded before, even during the historic high tide in 2022.
People said that the construction unit came down to check the flooding situation and promised to fix the sewer, but so far it has not been done.
The Cai Khe boat lock project is a package under the Can Tho City Development and Urban Resilience Project (Project 3), which started in September 2022. After nearly 2 years of construction, the project has been completed.
The flood risk management system for Can Tho city, but caused flooding to a residential area, this is unacceptable.
The first thing is that relevant units must compensate for houses that have sunk, cracked, or damaged due to the impact of the Cai Khe boat lock construction project.
Many households have sent complaints to the government and the Can Tho City Project Management Board. Responsible agencies and units must visit people's homes to consider and compensate for damages to the people.
Mr. Tran Van Phu Lam, whose four houses were damaged, said: “I know this is a key project and also a common benefit of the city. However, up to now, the project has been completed but I have not received compensation for the damage. I really hope that the agencies, departments and branches will soon support to overcome the consequences and compensate my family appropriately for the damage.”
People say it makes sense, the government must listen and resolve it.
The second is to solve the flooding problem for the area affected by the Cai Khe boat lock project.
Households here have to live in flooded houses, disrupting all activities, from traveling, eating, to studying. The elderly, children, and sick people all have to wade in the water, the environment is dirty, and susceptible to disease.
The Cai Khe boat lock project, with an investment of 437 billion VND, is a package under the Can Tho City Development and Urban Resilience Project. The people are very happy to receive this, but first of all, they have to compensate for damage to houses and repair the sewer system so that people are not flooded, so that people can "immediately enhance their resilience".
