Support the proposal to eliminate early admission to create fairness

Many universities have proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training remove the early admission method because this method is unfair to many candidates.

The draft university admission regulations for 2025 of the Ministry of Education and Training has created heated debates among the public, especially surrounding the proposal to limit early admission to a maximum of 20% of the target.

Many universities have boldly proposed to completely eliminate the early admission process. And this option should only be reserved for excellent students such as those who have won national and international awards... as a way to honor young talents and create strong motivation for students to strive for high achievements.

This proposal by universities should be supported for many reasons.

First of all, with a quota of 20%, early admission does not really have much practical meaning. Meanwhile, applying this admission method increases management pressure and wastes resources for both schools and candidates.

Instead, if the Ministry of Education and Training adjusts the general admission time earlier, schools can use this result to conduct additional recruitment, optimize the process and minimize complexity.

Next, eliminating early admission helps ensure fairness in access to educational opportunities.

In reality, when schools conduct early admissions with a variety of methods, the difference in access conditions between candidates becomes obvious. Candidates from areas with less conditions to take competency assessment exams or possess international certificates are more vulnerable.

That is not to mention the situation, as Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thien Phuc, Vice Principal of the University of Technology - Ho Chi Minh City National University, said on Lao Dong that "when considering early admission, students have not yet completed the high school training program".

“Not to mention, some counselors recently when advising on admissions have suggested or required students to register their admission wishes early. This is not right, but they have done so quietly.”

The decision to eliminate early admission will create a more even ground, where all candidates compete based on the same reference system: high school graduation exam results.

Secondly, focusing on the high school graduation exam will more accurately reflect the quality of teaching and learning at the secondary level.

Recently, the mentality of "admission early, no need to worry about graduation exams" has significantly affected students' determination to study, especially in the second semester of grade 12.

This reduces the significance of the graduation exam as an important measure in assessing comprehensive competence.

Focusing on a high-quality high school graduation exam will not only help universities recruit students more fairly and effectively, but also contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning at the high school level, creating a solid foundation for the sustainable development of Vietnam's education system!
