The incident of teacher Hoa (name changed) at Phu Thuan Primary School, Hue City fainting after a tense confrontation with the school leaders and the Department of Education and Training (GDDT) of Hue City, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, is not only a matter of irresponsibility in handling the situation but also reflects a form of "school violence" in the mental aspect of the managers.
According to Ms. Hoa's husband's account to Lao Dong, at around 3:00 p.m. on November 27, after receiving an urgent call from his wife about being exhausted during the confrontation, he went to school to pick her up.
However, when he arrived, he was stopped by security with the reason that "the school leadership did not allow it" and all the entrances to the 2nd floor - where the meeting was taking place - were locked.
At around 5pm, after receiving a text message from his wife that she was exhausted and could not take it anymore, he went back to the school and found Ms. Hoa sitting on the stairs leading down to the first floor, looking tired and exhausted. However, the doors were still locked.
It took a while for the guard to open the door and as soon as she stepped out into the school yard, teacher Hoa fainted and collapsed to the ground.
Locking down the school and preventing family members from having contact with a teacher who is in poor health, for whatever reason, goes against all basic human values. The school - which is supposed to be the safest and most compassionate place - has become a place of isolation and neglect for a teacher in need of urgent help.
What made the public even more indignant was the attitude of the school leaders and the Hue City Department of Education and Training. When Ms. Hoa fainted, none of them showed up to help, even though they were all present at the previous meeting.
In particular, when Lao Dong reporter asked about the reason for not supporting the teacher to go to the emergency room, the representative of the Department of Education and Training gave a very unbelievable answer: because of "fear".
The Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province needs to urgently get involved, investigate and clarify the responsibilities of each individual and organization related to this "fear" in order to have a form of rectification and strict handling.
The purpose of strict handling is not only to restore justice for Ms. Hoa but also to prevent similar cases in the future.
The Education sector is pursuing the slogan “Happy School” to create a positive and friendly learning and working environment for both students and teachers.
But the incident at Phu Thuan Primary School in Hue City is raising a big question: Where is the happiness when a teacher has to endure a lengthy confrontation, is prevented from seeing relatives when his health is exhausted, and finally faints without timely support?
