Why do many people take stomach pain lightly?
In a busy rhythm of life, abdominal pain is often attributed to stress, irregular eating or mild digestive disorders. Especially in women, abdominal pain is easily confused with menstrual pain or common physiological discomforts.
According to Dr. Pankaj Sharma, an endoscopic surgery and weight loss expert at Fortis Hospital (India), many women tend to endure silent pain, putting work and family first to personal health. “Delaying medical examination can cause the disease to be detected late, increasing the risk of complications,” Mr. Sharma warned.
Dangerous diseases that are easily overlooked
Abdominal pain is not simple if accompanied by abnormal signs. In clinical practice, doctors often encounter at least 5 conditions that are easily confused with common abdominal pain.
The first is gallstones. Women are at high risk due to hormone effects and metabolic disorders. Pain often appears in the right lower rib area, increases after meals with a lot of fat, easily mistaken for bloating or reflux.
Second, appendicitis can start with a simmering pain, then gradually increase and localize in the lower right abdomen. If delayed, ruptured appendix can be life-threatening.
Third, endometriosis causes severe pain in the lower abdomen, often recurring according to the menstrual cycle. Many women accept pain as "normal", leading to late diagnosis.
Fourth is ovarian cysts. Large tumors can cause bloating, subtle pain in the pelvic area; the most dangerous is ovarian torsion, a surgical emergency.
Finally, hernias are often manifested by small blisters in the abdomen or groin. If left untreated, the risk of intestinal congestion and blockage is very high.
Early detection determines treatment effectiveness
According to Dr. Sharma, with modern diagnostic methods such as ultrasound, CT or endoscopic surgery, determining the cause of abdominal pain today is not too complicated. “Any prolonged, recurrent or increasingly severe abdominal pain needs to be medically examined. Early detection helps treat it more simply and avoid complications,” he said.
Patients should not hesitate if there are signs such as severe or persistent pain, pain accompanied by fever, vomiting, abdominal distension, sudden digestive disorders, increased pain after eating or pain that clearly affects daily life.
Listening to the body is the first step to protecting your health. Abdominal pain is not always fleeting. In many cases, it is an early warning sign of diseases that need timely intervention.
