On March 27, Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital confirmed that the unit had just intervened to treat a patient with congenital heart disease at risk of severe complications.
Previously, on March 23, Ms. Ho Thi Xun (52 years old, residing in Lia commune, Quang Tri province) was admitted to Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital due to symptoms of fatigue and prolonged shortness of breath for many years.
Ms. Xun was indicated for in-depth examination at the Cardiology Department. The results determined that she had a secondary atrial septal defect about 22 mm in size, accompanied by pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure, and was indicated for intervention to close the septal defect with a device.
Thanks to modern cardiovascular techniques, the intervention took place smoothly, the vent was completely sealed with a 26 mm ASD device. After about 2 hours, the patient was awake and could talk normally.
Not stopping at treatment, the hospital continues to provide free medication and post-intervention monitoring. It is expected that after 6 months, if the results are stable, patients can stop taking medication and return to normal life.
It is known that more than a month before Ms. Xun came to the Provincial General Hospital, the Youth Union of Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital organized a charity trip to Lia commune. Overcoming difficult terrain, the delegation brought modern equipment and a team of doctors and medical staff from many specialties, examining, screening, consulting and treating people. Here, doctors discovered that Ms. Xun had interauricular septal defect - a congenital heart disease with a risk of severe complications if not intervened in time.
For doctors, this is a case of potential risk of pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, and even life-threatening. Immediately after that, the patient was advised to be hospitalized for treatment.
