On the evening of May 4, the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) issued an urgent warning related to the a2 Platinum Premium USA formula product for infants from 0–12 months old, after receiving recall information from the US Food Administration.
Accordingly, on May 2, 2026, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that A2 Milk Company (A2 Milk Company) has voluntarily recalled 03 batches of powdered formula milk supplemented with iron for young children. The reason is that it was discovered that the product may contain cereulide - a heat-resistant toxin produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria, which is at risk of causing serious harm to newborn health.
The recalled product backpack (packed in 31.7 ounce tin boxes, distributed in the United States) includes:
Lot 2210269454, expiration date July 15, 2026;
Lot 2210324609, expiration date January 21, 2027;
Lot 2210321712, expiration date January 15, 2027.
Before the above information, the Food Safety Department has sent a document to the Department of Health, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety and the Sub-Departments of Food Safety and Hygiene of provinces and cities directly under the Central Government, requesting urgent implementation of control measures.
Units need to review the registration of declarations or self-declarations for the above-mentioned products (if any in Vietnam); and at the same time work with importing and distributing enterprises to request notices of stopping use, and proceed to recall products according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Enterprises must also report in detail the quantity that has been imported, consumed and still in stock, along with proposals for handling plans.
In addition, local functional agencies are required to proactively develop a plan to take samples to monitor milk products and nutritional foods for young children circulating on the market. In case products that do not meet requirements are detected, they need to be promptly recalled and warnings issued to prevent the risk of food insecurity.
Communication work is also emphasized, in order to advise consumers not to use the recalled product batches mentioned above. This is considered an important measure to help minimize risks for infants - a particularly sensitive group.
The Food Safety Department requests localities to report on the implementation and handling results before May 18, 2026 to summarize, evaluate and have appropriate management measures in the coming time.
The Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) also sent a document to the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) on strengthening the management of food business activities on e-commerce platforms, in the context of international warnings related to the safety of milk products for infants.
Faced with the risk of affecting domestic consumers, especially newborns, the Food Safety Department has requested the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy to coordinate in notifying e-commerce platforms and online sales websites. Accordingly, relevant units need to proactively review and request booths and distributors to immediately stop trading the above-mentioned product batches (if circulating in Vietnam), and at the same time remove information about substandard products and handle them according to legal regulations.
More than 63,000 cans of a2 Platinum Premium infant formula have been recalled in the US after the discovery of cereulide toxin – a substance that can cause vomiting. The announcement was made by a2 Milk Company (New Zealand) on May 2 according to a FDA warning.
