According to initial information, some people in the same family in the locality had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment with symptoms suspected of food poisoning, including cases of death outside the hospital. The victims showed symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, headache, and frequent diarrhea. Before the incident, the patients were said to have used some foods such as watermelon and dairy products including yogurt, fresh clean milk.
Faced with the above situation, the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) requested the Son La Provincial Department of Health to direct medical facilities with patients undergoing treatment to maximize resources, actively provide emergency care and treatment for suspected food poisoning cases, ensuring that they do not affect the health and lives of patients.
At the same time, the local health sector needs to organize investigations and trace the origin of food suspected of causing poisoning in order to clearly identify the source of raw materials and food. Taking food samples and specimens for testing to find the cause is a mandatory requirement. In case of detecting violations of food safety regulations, it is necessary to strictly handle them according to legal regulations and publicize the results to promptly warn the community.
The Food Safety Department also requested to strengthen propaganda and guidance for people and food production and business establishments in the area to strictly implement regulations on ensuring food safety. In which, especially emphasizing the control of origin, source of raw materials, ensuring hygiene throughout the process of preliminary processing, processing, transportation and preservation of food. People need to be guided on choosing and using safe food, preserving it properly and within the lifespan of use.
In addition, the Son La Provincial Department of Health is required to seriously implement the contents of Directive No. 38/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on strengthening food poisoning prevention, as well as Official Dispatch No. 2633/BYT-ATTP of the Ministry of Health on strengthening food safety assurance, prevention of fake food and food poisoning.
The results of the investigation and handling of the case must be fully and promptly reported to the Food Safety Department in accordance with regulations.
The Food Safety Department said it will continue to closely monitor the developments of the incident and coordinate with functional agencies to ensure the rights, health and safety of people.
On January 1st, the People's Committee of Muong Gion commune (Son La province) said that a suspected food poisoning incident had just occurred in the area, killing 1 child and many others in the same family had to be hospitalized for treatment.
According to initial information, at about 5 pm on December 31, 2025, at Ms. Lo Thi Phieu's house (Kich Mang village, Muong Gion commune), 6 family members used fruits and yogurt bought by relatives during the holiday. At about 8:10 pm on the same day, 3 young children showed symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue and were taken to the commune health station for emergency treatment, then transferred to Quynh Nhai Regional General Hospital.
On the way to the emergency room, Lo Trong Tan (born January 8, 2022) died. The remaining two children continued to be treated at the hospital. At about 3 am on January 1, 3 adults in the family also developed similar symptoms and were taken to the hospital for health monitoring.
