Cocoa powder may help reduce the risk of heart disease
According to Dr. Sukriti Bhalla, Consultant Cardiologist at Aakash Healthcare, New Delhi (India), cocoa beans contain many flavonoids, polyphenols and theobromine. These active ingredients help reduce bad cholesterol in the blood, limit high blood pressure and help enhance blood vessel function.
Also according to a 2022 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, regular consumption of cocoa powder containing flavanols may reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke in older adults.
While cocoa powder may have some health benefits, it may not be good for your heart when consumed with sugar and fat, Dr. Bhalla adds. Therefore, you should choose unsweetened cocoa powder and use it in moderation.
