Update on the status of victims of the landslide at the hydropower plant in Lai Chau

On the evening of May 16, information from Lai Chau General Hospital said that the victims' condition had temporarily stabilized, and the two patients were still in the operating room.

According to a quick report from Lai Chau General Hospital, by 4:00 p.m. on May 16, the Hospital had received and provided emergency care to 4 male patients ( admitted to the hospital at 15:07-15:009) in the landslide that occurred at the Ta Pao Ho 1A hydropower plant, in Si Lo Lau commune, Phong Tho district.

Specifically, patient D.V.V (born in 1984) had many open wounds in his right leg and left foot, and multiple injuries after a work accident. The patient was transferred to emergency surgery to combine the right leg and left foot.

Patient L.V.P (born in 1985) showed signs of traumatic brain injury and multiple injuries, with severe neck pain. The patient was transferred to emergency surgery to treat the wound on the right leg and right ear ring.

Patient L.V.S (born in 1970) has pink mucous membranes, and is having a lot of pain in the neck and left elbow. Initial diagnosis was a concussion, cervical spine, chest, and abdominal injury. He has had a cervical spine brace and a left arm hanging in a mechanical position.

Patient M.V.Q (born in 1986) suffered from a soft wound to his right thigh, left ankle pain, back and chest pain. The wound on the right thigh soft tissue has been washed and tinched.

According to BSCKII Dao Viet Hung - Director of Lai Chau General Hospital, right after receiving the victims of the accident, the hospital's team of doctors and doctors focused on handling wounds, bone fixation and necessary emergency surgeries. The hospital also arranged a medical force closely to monitor the health of the patients. Currently, the victims are temporary, of which 2 patients are in the operating room.

Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, the unfortunate incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on May 16. During the construction process, the contractor (Dung Phuc Loc Construction Investment Joint Stock Company headquartered in Nghe An) hired a number of local workers.

At the time of the accident, workers were clearing the foundation holes under the hydroelectric dam, the road's negative slope was eroded, and rocks and soil flowed down, burying many people.

Accordingly, 5 people are missing (determined to have died) including: Tan Su May (born in 1980); Ly Lao San (born in 2008); Tan U May (born in 1984); Phan Lao Lo (born in 2009), all residing in Lan Nhi Thang village, Si Lo Lau commune, Phong Tho district and Luong Van Ha (born in 1987, residing in Que Phong district, Nghe An province).

The Ta Pao Ho 1A Hydropower Project exploits a approach road including 1 main dam to raise water and 3 auxiliary dams to collect water, the total length of the water pipeline tunnels is 4.2km, of which the main pressure tunnel is about 2km long, with a water pole calculated at 281.71m, the plant uses 2 vertical turbines, with an installed capacity of 13.5MW.

The Ta Pao Ho 1A and Ta Pao Ho 1B hydropower projects have a capacity of 24MW, with a total investment of 911 billion VND, and are 2 of 8 hydropower projects invested by Kosy Group in Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces.
