A quick report from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Lai Chau city, Lai Chau province said that on the night of May 14 and the morning of May 15, the city experienced prolonged heavy rain, causing heavy damage to infrastructure and agricultural production, with total estimated damage of about 14.847 billion VND.
Accordingly, heavy rain affected 50 households (water flooded into their houses, fence collapsed, and slope landslides behind the houses).

Regarding infrastructure, many roads in the city were partially flooded, causing a large amount of mud and soil, obstructing traffic; collapsed 3 low-voltage power poles; 9 houses had landslides on the slopes behind their houses in Group 5, Tan Phong ward.
Public works also suffered heavy damage, including: about 45m of fence collapsed at the Provincial Bus Station and about 100m of fence at the Provincial Stadium. In addition, many locations on rural traffic routes and drainage canals were also eroded.
Regarding agriculture, heavy rain has washed away 21 hectares of fish ponds; more than 23 hectares of corn have been washed away or buried by mud. In particular, 262 cattle and over 1,670 poultry were swept away or died.

In the face of the above situation, local forces have supported households in temporarily moving assets and housing; developed plans to repair damaged infrastructure works.
Also according to information from Lai Chau Hydrometeorological Station, in the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams in mountainous areas; landslides on steep slopes, and land subsidence in Muong Te and Than Uyen districts.
