More than 30 doctors and nurses from specialties and units under Bach Mai Hospital, along with students from Bach Mai Medical College, have traveled to Nghe An and Tuyen Quang to provide professional support and medical examination and treatment for people and colleagues in flood-affected areas and neighboring areas.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co - Director of Bach Mai Hospital - shared: "This is the time when our compatriots and colleagues need us the most. I call on all cadres, employees, and students to contribute, strive, and have a heart to support the people and colleagues. Whoever has assets and gifts to contribute, whoever has the strength to contribute - that is the responsibility and also the affection".
According to the plan, the working group will go to Nghe An and Tuyen Quang provinces, then continue to expand support depending on actual needs in affected localities. In addition to human resources, the hospital also prepares medicine, supplies, medical equipment and logistics equipment.
The hospital's Board of Directors assigned the delegation not only to examine, treat, provide emergency care and control after floods but also to organize training and transfer techniques to help local health facilities improve their capacity to respond to natural disasters. The Bach Mai Institute of Medical and Pharmaceutical Training and Research will be a focal point for coordination with the Departments of Health and the Provincial People's Committee for implementation.
The Ministry of Health requires medical examination and treatment facilities nationwide to update the list of essential drugs, supplement reserves, and ensure adequate treatment needs of the people, including in medical situations arising from natural disasters and epidemics.
In case there are signs of drug shortage, units need to promptly report to the Ministry of Health to have a coordinating and support plan. For drug manufacturing and importing facilities, the Drug Administration has proactively maintained supply, ensuring quality and reasonable prices; prioritized the allocation of goods to serve urgent needs in areas severely damaged by the storm.
The Drug Administration Department also prepares disinfectants, coordinates with the government to clean the environment, treat domestic water, collect garbage, ensure clean water; strengthen monitoring, detect early and thoroughly handle infectious cases, prevent outbreaks.
Dr. Chu Quoc Thinh - Deputy Director of the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health) - said that storms causing floods in many Northern and Central provinces, the Department has requested localities to deploy emergency measures to ensure food safety and prevent poisoning during and after the storm.
Flooded and isolated areas need to ensure safe food and drinking water supply; encourage the use of processed foods such as dried food, instant noodles, bottled water and vitamin supplements to increase resistance. People absolutely must not use dead livestock and poultry as food; flooded water must be filtered and disinfected before use.
Health units strengthen monitoring of food poisoning and disease risks; promptly handle suspected food poisoning cases. At the same time, coordinate to control the quality of food and drinking water for relief, not to let damaged, expired products reach people.
