The psoas muscle (also known as the iliopsoas muscle) is a group of muscles located in the central region of the body, playing an important role in connecting the upper and lower body.

Accordingly, experts at Yale University (USA) have noted the location and function of the lumbar muscles in the body that practitioners need to know.

The psoas is part of the hip muscle group, which consists of two main parts: the psoas major and the iliacus. These two parts are often referred to as the iliopsoas.

Of these, the large psoas muscle is located in the lower spine (from vertebrae T12 to L5) and attaches to the femur; the iliacus muscle is located in the pelvic cavity and connects to the large psoas muscle at the femur.

The lumbar muscle area is considered quite important for the body as it helps stabilize the spine, especially in standing or sitting positions for a long time.

The psoas muscle is located close to internal organs such as the kidneys and intestines, so a strong psoas muscle area will help reduce pressure on these organs as well as support digestion and excretion.

If athletes practice incorrectly, it can easily directly affect the lumbar muscle area, such as lumbar muscle strain or pelvic girdle pain syndrome.

To protect and maintain the health of the lumbar muscles, experts advise practitioners to increase exercise, stretch regularly, and practice sitting and standing in the correct posture.

At the same time, you should practice exercises such as Yoga and Pilates to help relax the lumbar muscles, avoid injury and have a healthy body.
