On August 1, Xuyen A General Hospital informed the unit to successfully perform endoscopic rhinoplasty surgery for Ms. P.T.K.N (19 years old, Dong Thap) with mass market tumor.
For more than 6 months now, Ms. P.T.K.N (19 years old, Dong Thap) has often had a headache and blurred vision. As time went on, her left eye could not see everything clearly. The results of the brain MRI scan showed that the patient had a large calf tumor, compressing the urethral nerve. If not intervened promptly, the patient is at risk of blindness.
After interdisciplinary consultation, the doctors decided to intervene with endoscopic technique to remove the cabbage tumor through the nasal passages. MSc. Dr. Huynh Van Vu - Deputy Head of the Department of Cluster Mobilization and Surgery 2, Xuyen A General Hospital shared that for the treatment of bulge, surgery is the optimal method. Normally, the surgeon will open the skull to remove the tumor. However, because the tumor is located near sensitive areas, the surgery will make it difficult to remove all the tumor, posing many potential risks and a long recovery time.
The advantage of nasal endoscopic surgery is to fully access the tumor, avoid important neurological and vascular structures such as urticaria and oschial arteries to reduce complications during surgery. Endoscopic rhinoplasty is both less invasive and approachable to remove the tumor better.
After surgery, patient N's vision began to recover clearly. A week later, a vision test showed that the left eye had returned to 10/10.
After discharge, the patient was scheduled for regular check-ups to monitor his health after surgery as well as control problems with post-operative endocrine disorders such as hormonal disorders, poverty lines, etc. to avoid the risk of recurrence.
Doctor Vu recommends that a scalp tumor is a rare type of brain tumor, often appearing in the skull floor area - near the eyes and visual intersection. Although not a malignant tumor, a pharyngitis can cause many serious complications due to its sensitive location in the brain. A large tumor can press on the optic nerve, causing blurred vision or loss of vision, affecting the seen gland, causing endocrine disorders, or increasing intracranial pressure with symptoms such as headaches and nausea.
Schmerz is common in children and adolescents, with initial symptoms that are easily overlooked or confused with other diseases. The earlier the surgery time, the higher the recovery rate. If left for longer, the more difficult the surgery will be and there may be many risks of complications related to surgery.
When patients experience symptoms such as prolonged headaches, blurred vision, weak limbs, especially in young people, they need to see a specialist early for accurate diagnosis and timely treatment.
