Where to get a life
Compact, quick, careful, accurate... are what describes the day's work of medical staff at the A9 Emergency Center (Bach Mai Hospital).
The A9 Emergency Center of Bach Mai Hospital is not only a place to receive serious cases but also a " bridge" between life and death. Here, every moment carries the desire to save lives, every decision of doctors and nurses can change the fate of patients. This is a place where passion, expertise and humanity blend to create touching stories, rare feats in medicine.
MSc. Le Quang Tri, Head nurse of the A9 Emergency Center (Bach Mai Hospital) just carried a lunch box up and quickly dropped it because there was a serious emergency that had just been transferred. After handling the case, Ths. Tri returned to the room when the rice box had cooled down with stir-fried vegetables, braised meat, cabbage soup boxes...
"Having food is very happy. After many days of emergency care, I no longer want to continue my meals," Ms. Tri shared.
"Working at A9 is like an endless battle. Emergency cases come from all over the country, with 70% of patients in critical condition, requiring quick and accurate intervention. The medical team, along with hundreds of dedicated nurses, is always ready 24/7 - not only on weekdays but also on holidays and Tet, when rest seems far away. Therefore, every moment spent at A9 is precious, because "a second of delay" can be the line between life and death", Ths. Tri shared more.
Female patient P.L.Q.L, 21 years old from Hanoi, has become a living proof of the spirit of " struggling to make a living" of the medical team. After a serious traffic accident while on his way home from a guidance class, the patient fell into a state of multiple injuries, out-of-hospital circulatory arrest and severe blood loss shock.
As soon as they arrived at the A9 Emergency Center, the medical team acted extremely quickly, performing emergency cardiopulmonary and cardiac arrest. Thereby, they preliminarily diagnosed the patient with severe multiple injuries shock with injuries including closed chest trauma, right atherosclerosis rupture, overflow of the bilateral pleural blood vessels and traumatic brain injury.
After a drastic emergency and emergency blood transfusion, the patient was immediately taken to the operating room. Here, the surgical team discovered that the patient had a heart rupture and damage to the right amniotic joint, accompanied by about 1.5 kg of blood clots. During and after the surgery, the patient received a total of 10 liters of blood, contributing significantly to the recovery process.
After only 21 days of active treatment, thanks to the dedication, high professionalism and indomitable spirit of the medical team, the patient has fully recovered and was discharged from the hospital. This story not only made the A9 Emergency Center famous but also a firm belief in the power of medicine and the courage to save lives.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Director of the A9 Emergency Center said that the A9 Emergency Center with more than 200 staff and doctors is always overloaded, with a bed capacity of 150-200%.
"Whether on weekdays, holidays or Tet, we work at our capacity to meet the needs of patients," said Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan.
Dedicated to the health of the people
In A9, patient classification according to color packs (red, orange, yellow, green) is strictly applied to ensure that critical cases are prioritized for immediate treatment. Doctors use modern resuscitation techniques such as mechanical ventilation, temperature control and many other specialized interventions to "squeeze" the patient's life. At the same time, close coordination between specialties helps cases be monitored and treated comprehensively, minimizing risks.
Despite facing a huge workload and pressure from both patients and family members, team spirit and love for the profession are always the motivation to help the "white- shirted soldiers" at A9 firmly overcome all challenges. They are not only savers with professional skills but also share, comfort, bring faith and hope to those facing tragedy. Every thank you, every light smile of the patient after overcoming the critical condition is a precious spiritual reward, a source of encouragement to help them continue their noble mission.
The A9 Emergency Center, which lives the patients at Bach Mai Hospital, is a living proof of the silent sacrifice and love for the profession of the Vietnamese medical team. In each emergency, in each stressful hour, this place always depicts the belief that, no matter how difficult, life always has the opportunity to "re conquer" thanks to the enthusiasm and expertise of the silent people.
