Patient N.T.H, (female, 40 years old, living in Ben Luc, Tay Ninh province) discovered kidney disease in 2018 and registered for a kidney transplant in 2020. In May 2021, the patient was successfully transplanted a kidney from his sister's donation by a doctor at Cho Ray Hospital.
In June 2024, through health screening, patient H accidentally discovered damage to both breasts, so she was prescribed a photosensitization and resulted in damage to both breasts, this was not a malicious damage, however, this damage was at risk of developing into malicious.
Therefore, the patient was scheduled to be monitored and re-examined every 3 months with ultrasound, chup anh and chest X-ray. In September 2025, the results of the film congs from the breast discovered that the patient had injuries to both breasts. At this time, the patient was resuscitated by the Breast Surgeons for the second time. The result was on-site breast cancer on both sides. This is a form of early stage breast cancer: stage 0.
Because the patient had underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, osteoporosis, gastritis, and kidney transplantation and was taking anti-detoxification drugs, the team decided to choose a less invasive surgical method, which was endoscopic surgery to remove the two sides of the chest, perform a labor forceps examination (no armpits) and regenerate the chest with pillows on both sides.
This is a new technique in Vietnam, with a small 4cm incision under the armpits on both sides to perform the bodybuilding technique of the bodyguard gland, through which doctors conduct a cavity and completely endoscopic incision of the breastline, then immediately reconstruct the breastline with a pillowcase. With this technique, quick surgery, less pain, short surgical scars, cosmetic surgery... ensure the thorough treatment of breast cancer, while maintaining the beauty of women. Patient H was only hospitalized for 6 days for treatment and monitoring.
In the world, less invasive breast reconstructive surgery has only been applied in recent years, especially in Asian countries, because the breastline of Asian women is smaller than that of European and American women.
In Vietnam, Cho Ray Hospital is one of the first hospitals to perform less invasive surgery in breast reconstruction for breast cancer patients.
From January 2023 to July 2024, there were 130 cases of this surgery in the breast department, 96.15% of cases achieved good results. Patient H was the first patient to undergo surgery and reconstruct both sides of the breast with a combination of many new methods and techniques.
Currently, early stage breast cancer is often indicated for less invasive surgery such as endoscopic surgery, robotic surgery to help thoroughly treat breast tumors while regenerating the breast for patients.
The advantage of this surgery is that the patient has less pain, less surgical time, shortened hospital stay, cosmetic surgery to restore the original appearance, and confidence for women who unfortunately have breast cancer. And these techniques have been performed regularly at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Cho Ray Hospital.
To contribute to early detection of breast cancer, experts also especially recommend that women aged 40 and over should have regular health screening, always takeyenics and check-ups promptly to prevent the disease from progressing to a late stage.
