Da Nang - Faced with the situation of some local drug shortages, the Da Nang health sector has accelerated the assessment of drug procurement packages for the period 2024-2026.

According to the Da Nang Department of Health, regarding the progress of local drug procurement in the period of 2024 - 2026: The Department of Health is urgently assessing the bidding documents for 4 packages of local drug procurement for drug supply in the period of 2024 - 2026 for medical facilities in Da Nang city to ensure the correct progress of local drug procurement has reported to the City People's Committee and notified medical facilities participating in the centralized bidding.

From January 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025, public health facilities in the city have purchased 175 packages with 6,299 winning drugs with a total value of VND 1,249,175,439,062. Accordingly, the units are currently basically ensuring adequate supply of medicine to serve the medical examination and treatment of patients.

However, in the process of supplying drugs, the units are currently facing some difficulties leading to local drug shortages at some times: some procurement packages do not have participating contractors or cannot select contractors who have to bid many times, leading to a shortage of drugs during the bidding period; some cases of drugs that won the bid but the contractor could not supply drugs or provide intermittently, not promptly serving the requirements of medical examination and treatment at medical facilities.

Accordingly, many solutions to handle the temporary shortage of drugs are being implemented by units at the same time, such as medical facilities flexibly applying forms of procurement according to the provisions of the Law on Bidding and guiding documents to continuously organize the procurement of drug bidding packages for medical examination and treatment at the unit.

The Department of Health and medical facilities proactively regulate drugs and mobilize drug funding from pharmaceutical companies.

Medical facilities use alternative treatment regimens or consultation, explanation, and transfer of patients to medical examination and treatment facilities with drugs to ensure the patient's health insurance medical examination and treatment rights.
