The number of people exposed to rabies from wounds caused by dogs and cats in Lao Cai province is on the rise.

Of these, 2,240 cases required rabies vaccination, an increase of 806 cases over the same period, and 429 cases required rabies serum injection, an increase of 179 cases over the same period.

Topping the list of localities with people exposed to rabies is Lao Cai city with 533 cases, Bao Thang 483 cases, Van Ban 237 cases, Bao Yen 224 cases, Sa Pa town 209 cases, Muong Khuong 207 cases...

Currently, the poor, near-poor, ethnic minorities, people with revolutionary contributions, children under 6 years old, people participating in disease prevention and control in high-risk areas... will be vaccinated with rabies vaccine/serum for free.

Medical centers of districts, towns and cities have directed commune health stations to maintain fixed vaccination points at health stations to implement rabies serum/vaccine injections for people.

Rabies is an acute viral infection of the central nervous system transmitted from animals to humans, usually through saliva contaminated with the rabies virus.

Most cases of exposure to the rabies virus are through animal bites or licks. Rabies attacks in both animals and humans are fatal.

Measures to prevent and control rabies: Limit the raising of dogs and cats; keep them chained; vaccinate dogs and cats against rabies. People bitten by dogs, cats, or animals need to get rabies shots early and fully. Do not use herbal medicine to treat dog, cat, or animal bites.
