The cooking facility at Lao Cai College's canteen was fined for food safety violations that resulted in 54 students being hospitalized.

On November 2, information from Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong has just issued a decision to administratively sanction violations in the field of food safety against business household Pham Thi Thuyet (canteen of Lao Cai College, address at Phan Ke Binh Street, Bac Cuong Ward, Lao Cai City) for causing food poisoning.

Previously, on October 9, at the Lao Cai College canteen, 80 people were poisoned by food, of which 54 had to be hospitalized. The cause was that many foods were contaminated with salmonella bacteria (bacteria that cause Vietnamese sausagey diarrhea and stomachaches).

Through verification, the business owner, Ms. Pham Thi Thuyet, admitted her violations.

With the above violation, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong decided to fine this business household more than 83 million VND.

Penalties include: Processing, supplying, and selling food that causes food poisoning affecting the health of 5 or more people but not to the extent of criminal prosecution; Using ingredients of unknown origin to process food; Failure to comply with legal regulations on the 3-step food inspection regime.

In addition to the fine, Ms. Thuyet’s household was suspended from all food processing, trading, and supply activities for three months. At the same time, she was forced to destroy the food that caused the poisoning and bear all costs for examination and treatment for those who suffered from food poisoning.
