During a trip to Sa Pa, a European tourist suddenly had a severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, and fell into critical condition.
After receiving first aid at a medical facility in Lao Cai province, the patient was urgently transferred to Bach Mai Hospital in a state of severe respiratory failure. Initial examination results showed that she had acute coronary syndrome on the basis of a patient placing an old coronary stent, with a lot of left pleural overflow, SpO2 was only 86%.
indices determine that the patient had a widespread myocardial infarction with complications of acute heart failure. The patient also had a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Immediately upon admission, the team of doctors from the Cardiovascular Institute, Bach Mai Hospital deployed intensive treatment according to an international standard regimen. The patient was given pulmonary circulation, respiratory support, helping SpO2 quickly improve from 86 to 95%. In parallel, the treatment regimen for acute coronary syndrome and acute heart failure is being carried out synchronously.
Although the patient could not speak English, the doctors and nurses still coordinated effectively thanks to the timely support of the Embassy, ensuring transparent exchanges and helping the patient and his family feel completely secure.
After stabilizing breathing and circulation, the Hospital's professional Council agreed to prescribe coronary artery scans and interventions. The chupic results showed that the old stent was well-matched but appeared 50% narrow at the front interlocking branch (LAD1). Doctors used an ultrasound in the cardiovascular to detect the endometriosis, the cause of the attack. A new stent was placed promptly, completely restoring the flow of the coronary artery.
After the intervention, the patient had no breast pain or shortness of breath; vital signs were stable, Troponin T gradually decreased - proof that the heart muscle area had been saved.
Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Manh Cuong - Deputy Director, Head of the Emergency and Intensive Care Unit of the Cardiovascular Institute, Bach Mai Hospital said: This is a case that was handled systematically and urgently. We have promptly controlled respiratory failure and acute heart failure.
After treatment, the patient recovered well, was discharged safely from the hospital and returned home to continue health monitoring.
