Red Journey is the largest-scale blood donation campaign in the country, co-organized by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the Office of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the Steering Committees for Voluntary Blood Donation of provinces and cities and Blood Transfusion Centers. This is the central activity of the "Summer Red Drops" Campaign, contributing to ensuring blood sources for emergency and treatment.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Binh, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Deputy Head of the Red Journey Organizing Committee, affirmed that the success of the program is the result of the coordination between the Organizing Committee, localities, hospitals, Blood Transfusion Centers and the response of millions of blood donors.
In 2026, the Red Journey will be implemented in June and July in 32 provinces and cities, setting a target of receiving 120,000 units of blood.
After two months, the program organized 53 official blood donation points, receiving 31,695 units of blood; 575 blood donation points responded, receiving 137,075 units. In total, 628 blood donation points received more than 168,770 units of blood, far exceeding the set target.
Through 14 times of organization since 2013, the Red Journey has implemented 4,153 blood donation points in 32 provinces and cities, receiving a total of 1,232,365 units of blood.
Not only creating a milestone in quantity, the Red Journey also contributes to expanding the blood donation force, from police, military, health, officials, civil servants, and laborers to a large number of people. Many localities organize additional activities to honor blood donors, propaganda, parades, visits to martyrs' cemeteries, gives gifts to patients in difficult circumstances and maintain a network of volunteers.
These results contribute to improving coordination efficiency, ensuring safe blood and blood products for emergency and treatment nationwide.
2027 marks the 15th anniversary of the Red Journey. The Organizing Committee orients the program to continue to be organized in June and July, more methodically and on a larger scale, aiming for the participation of all 34 provinces and cities.
The Red Journey 2026 season closed with more than 168,770 units of blood received. The meaningful drops of blood continue to spread the spirit of solidarity and compassion, contributing to giving more life opportunities to patients and making voluntary blood donation culture increasingly become a sustainable activity in the community.
