From October 18 to November 9, the 18th working session of the program "Thien Nhan and Friends" continued its journey of examining and performing surgery on children with genital and urinary system disabilities.
Participating in the 18th working session, in addition to the team of experts and doctors from many countries around the world, there are professors and doctors from the following institutes: Central Children's Hospital, Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital, Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital; and Children's Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City.
This is an annual activity carried out to contribute to continuing the mission of providing health care for disadvantaged children across the country, bringing positive changes to the lives of hundreds of children in need of medical support.
After 17 successful working sessions, the program “Thien Nhan and Friends” has organized 630 surgeries, examined and diagnosed 2,000 children and there are still 1,000 patients waiting for treatment.
In Vietnam, in addition to examination and surgery, international experts also organize scientific seminars, training and coaching sessions right at the hospital with Vietnamese doctors and medical staff - exchanging experiences and introducing the most advanced methods of pediatric urological surgery.
Mr. Greig Craft - founder of the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation - shared: The mission of "Thien Nhan and Friends" is not only to treat a minority of children with genital disabilities who come to the program, but also to spread inspiration for life, as well as share medical knowledge from leading experts.
The program "Thien Nhan and friends" has received support from Vietnam Airlines to support the transportation of doctors, medical experts and patients of the program.
18 years after being found in a corner of the garden and given a second life, Thien Nhan is now a university student majoring in Artificial Intelligence.
In July 2006, Thien Nhan was abandoned in Nui Thanh (Quang Nam) when he was just born. A wild animal bit off one of his legs and genitals. Three days later, Thien Nhan was discovered by locals and taken to the emergency room.
After Thien Nhan was 1 year old, he was adopted by journalist Tran Mai Anh in Hanoi. The journey to Thien Nhan not only became a "miracle" for Thien Nhan but also brought much hope to many children with genital disabilities across the country. These were once difficult disabilities to talk about and there were few treatment methods in the country. The program "Thien Nhan & Friends" was born from that, providing opportunities for examination and genital reconstruction surgery for thousands of disadvantaged children.
Thien Nhan is the first, but not the only, person who has had a new life, a life filled with inspiration and love, thanks to the hands of pediatricians from around the world.
