On December 13, 2025, DND International Eye Hospital organized a workshop on " decoding corneal structure - Secret to choosing the right near-astical surgical method", focusing on cornea assessment before prescribing the method of near-astical surgery.
At the workshop, DND experts emphasized the role of cornea analysis before making any candidates for minor surgery.
Sharing at the event, Dr. Dang Thi Nhu Quynh - Deputy Director of DND International Eye Hospital said that no two corneas are completely similar. thickness, curvature, tissue reactions or bio-endurance - all create a unique "visal fingerprint" of each person.
Previously, refractive surgery was often implemented in the direction of a "common model": quick measurement - concise surgery - early recovery. Although this model is effective in a wide range, the simplification of specialized indicators leads to many cases of unsatisfactory post-operative vision or silent complications due to ignoring the personality of the cornea - a complex and extremely sensitive organ, instead, it starts with careful analysis of each cornea, with specialized indicators such as curvature, thickness, tissue response and bioresistency - data that is often overlooked in mass surgery models.

We not only care how many amputations patients have, but also want to know if their corneas are really ready for surgery. Every index, every small abnormality is a signal that we need to listen to before making an appointment. Many complications after surgery such as corneal extensation, non-healing corneal lumps... can be avoided if we heard early warnings from these biological parameters, instead of just caring about how many diopters the patient is close to, the cornea assessment must be a mandatory step: curvature - thickness - tissue response - biological endurance. This is data that is often overlooked in mass-based surgical models, said Dr. Quynh.
At the workshop, experts also spent time analyzing the cornea nervous system - a factor that was less mentioned but directly affected the surgical results and the level of dry eyes after surgery.
According to Dr. Dang Thi Nhu Quynh, corneas are areas with high density of nerve fibers, with nerve puppets distributed in many layers from shallow to deep. When performing laser refractive surgery, each technique will affect these layers of nerve fiber to different degrees. The level of invasion of the cornea nervous system is an important criterion in choosing a surgical method, especially for patients with sensitive geocortical muscles. Minimum intervention techniques, creating small surgical lines, using femto laser rays such as SMILE or SMILE Pro help preserve the peripheral nervous system to the maximum, thereby significantly reducing dry eyes after surgery and supporting a more stable recovery process.
Also within the framework of the workshop, DND International Eye Hospital announced a year-end incentive program - a time when the demand for eye care and refractive surgery increases. From December 1, 2025, customers who register for near-myopia - near-myopia - far-term - aging surgery using SMILE Pro, SMILE/CLEAR, femto-LASIK, Smart SurfACE, last lastIK and Phakic ICL technologies will enjoy incentives of up to 40% of the cost of surgery.

The program is considered a special opportunity for young people to regain their natural vision, preparing for a new year with brighter and stronger eyes.
