On September 4, the People's Committee of An Giang province held a survey and worked with Kien Giang Oncology Hospital on the operation and construction progress of the 400-bed Hospital. The survey and working session was chaired by Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy.
According to Director of Kien Giang Oncology Hospital Hang Quoc Tuan, the Hospital is currently operating according to the model of Kien Giang Provincial Oncology Hospital (before the merger) with 250 beds according to the assigned plan, 274 practical beds. The hospital has 2 facilities in operation: facility 1 at 15 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Rach Gia ward; facility 2 - Center for Nuclear Medicine and radiotherapy in Binh An commune. With 18 departments and rooms, including: 5 functional departments, 9 clinical departments, 4 paraclinical departments.
Modern equipment has been invested such as: linear accelerator radiotherapy system, CT Scanner simulator, PET-CT machine, SPECT machine... The hospital is the first provincial facility in the Southern region to successfully deploy PET-CT chupage to help accurately diagnose stage, monitor treatment response and early detection of cancer lesions.

Kien Giang Oncology Hospital is recognized as the only facility in the Mekong Delta region that has successfully applied IMRT and VMAT radiotherapy techniques for cancer patients.
After more than 4 years of operation, Kien Giang Oncology Hospital has met the needs of oncology examination and treatment of people in the province and neighboring areas.
The total number of outpatient visits increased from 9,142 in 2021 to 21,099 in 2024. In the first 6 months of 2025, it reached 12,719 cases, an increase of 8.8% over the same period. The total number of inpatients increased from 2,512 in 2021 to 6,093 in 2024 and continued to increase sharply by 3,905 in the first 6 months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024...
In 2020, the Kien Giang Oncology Hospital project, with a scale of 400 beds, was started; phase 1 capital was allocated for infrastructure investment with a total investment of 1,347 billion VND, implementation period 2019 - 2025. In phase 2, it is expected to purchase specialized equipment for Kien Giang Oncology Hospital with a total investment of more than 517 billion VND.
At the meeting, Kien Giang Oncology Hospital and the Management Board of Construction - Transport Investment Projects proposed difficulties and problems in human resources, infrastructure, medical equipment, project construction, etc.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy highly appreciated the spirit, responsibility, and determination of the leaders and staff of Kien Giang Oncology Hospital in the context of difficult facilities still maintaining and promoting the effectiveness, especially in the work of caring for and protecting people's health.
To promptly resolve the difficulties of Kien Giang Oncology Hospital, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy requested the Department of Home Affairs to urgently appraise and submit to the Provincial People's Committee a decision to establish Kien Giang Oncology Hospital under the Department of Health of An Giang province.
Assign the Department of Health to review the overall human resources of professional health workers, transfer them to Kien Giang Oncology Hospital to ensure professional human resources to serve the needs of the hospital. At the same time, review the overall health sector personnel plan of the whole province, proactively place annual orders with universities to promptly supplement human resources for the health sector. Organize the selection of contractors for centralized procurement of drugs, chemicals and medical supplies in accordance with the provisions of the law on bidding.
Propose that the Department of Finance consider allocating medium-term capital for the 2026-2030 period for the equipment needs of the Kien Giang Oncology Hospital project, so that the project can ensure the completion of facilities and accompanying equipment to meet the needs of use.
Regarding the project to build Kien Giang Oncology Hospital with a scale of 400 beds, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy requested the investor to urge the contractor to construct and review all items of the remaining packages, urgently organize bidding, select contractors to ensure the project implementation progress time.
