Causes of bitter taste in mouth

- Poor oral hygiene

When teeth are not brushed regularly, bacteria can build up on the tongue and teeth, leading to bad breath and a bitter taste.

- Some drugs

Certain medications such as antibiotics, blood pressure medications, and some vitamins can cause a bitter taste in the mouth due to bitter-tasting pharmaceutical ingredients.

- Gastroesophageal reflux disease

Gastroesophageal reflux disease is characterized by acid reflux, resulting in a bitter taste in the mouth.

- Oral candidiasis

Oral thrush is caused by an overgrowth of the fungus Candida albicans, which causes white patches on the tongue, inner cheeks and throat, resulting in a bitter taste in the mouth.

- Dry mouth

Dry mouth due to dehydration and mouth breathing can lead to a bitter taste in the mouth. When the mouth does not produce enough saliva, the mouth can become dry and uncomfortable.
