The mother is Ms. Huynh Thi Truc Mo (Ap 9, Khanh Binh commune), 39 weeks and 4 days pregnant (born on July 19). After examination, doctors determined that the fetus was large, so the decision to have surgery should be taken proactively to ensure the safety of both mother and baby
Doctor CKII Du Kim Ngan - Deputy Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Tran Van Thoi General Hospital - said: This is the third child of the mother, while the two previous children weighed only over 3 kg. The surgery went smoothly, the mother and baby were both healthy.
After examination, doctors determined that this was a case of a large fetus, with a high risk of complications if given often, so they prescribed an active cesarean section to ensure the safety of mother and baby.
Doctor Ngan said: For large embryos over 4.5 kg, especially nearly 6 kg like this case, the risk of obstetric complications is always present, especially when the mother has given birth many times. Proactive timely surgery is a key factor in helping safe labor cases.
According to records in the Mekong Delta, in recent times, there have not been many cases of newborns reaching a weight of nearly 6 kg like this case.
Currently, the health of the mother and the baby are both stable and are receiving post-operative care.
