When looking for alternatives to cookies, chips, cereal, or gummies, many people turn to healthier alternatives. However, not all options are healthy. For example, unsweetened yogurt and coconut oil, while considered natural, are high in saturated fat, which is not suitable for people who are trying to lose weight.
Dr. Mitchell Roslin, chief of bariatric surgery at Northern Westchester Hospital, warns against one food that is often mistaken for healthy: dried vegetables. He says that vegetables like cauliflower, squash, and potatoes are only healthy when they are steamed or boiled.
On the contrary, when they are used as ingredients in pizza, fried or dried, the nutritional content will be significantly reduced. In addition, dried vegetables are often high in calories, salt and do not give a feeling of fullness, which can hinder the weight loss process.
Despite their healthy appearance, dried vegetables are not much different from fried vegetables. Some types of dried vegetables may provide extra fiber and vitamins. But they are still high in calories, sodium, or fat, which can lead to weight gain.
