According to Dr. Truong Thi Ngoc Phu - Deputy Head of the General Planning Department of Children's Hospital 2, hot weather and high temperatures are a favorable time to cause some diseases of gastrointestinal infection (diarrhea, food poisoning); heatstroke, heatstroke; skin diseases (shorta, heat dermatitis, allergic dermatitis...).
To promptly ensure children's health in hot weather, Dr. Ngoc Phu recommends that parents should create good personal hygiene habits for children such as washing their hands thoroughly before eating, after going to the toilet and playing.
At the same time, limit the application of hands to the eyes, nose, mouth... to effectively eliminate pathogens from the children's hands.
Eat hygienically by paying attention to the issue of processing and preserving food, drinks, and food storage time at environmental temperature. If you eat food at the store, restaurant... you need to choose a location to ensure food safety and hygiene, avoiding food poisoning for children.
Always keep the living environment airy and fresh such as evacuating the environment, removing stagnant water, keeping the living environment hygienic... helping to limit the infection of infectious diseases.
In addition, increasing the amount of water needed by the body, especially drinking water rich in minerals and vitamins such as fruit juices, fresh orange juice, fresh coconut water, boiled water to cool... helps the young body not lose water due to high temperatures and increases resistance.
Limit children from playing too long in hot weather because it can easily cause dehydration, exhaustion and easily get sick. If children have to work outdoors, they should be instructed and covered carefully, avoiding times when the temperature of the environment increases and the rays of light are active during the day (10-14h), the time for outdoor activities is no more than 60 minutes/day for children in hot weather.
Some infectious diseases have vaccines to prevent them, so vaccination should be done to reduce the risk of disease and protect children from the hot season.
Doctor Phu also noted that parents should take their children to a medical facility for examination as soon as they are not alert, sluggish; cannot drink or stop feeding.
Children with severe dehydration: no urine for 6 - 8 hours, no tears, dry skin and lips, low eyes; diarrhea for more than 2 days without reduction; diarrhea with fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, bloody stools or any signs that make parents worried.
