On September 11, the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) said it had just recorded a death suspected of rabies in Hoa Phu commune.
This is the 7th death suspected of rabies in the province since the beginning of 2025.
The patient is Mr. S.K.V (born in 1960, residing in Hoa Phu commune). On September 7, he showed symptoms of fever, fatigue, anxiety, fear of water, fear of the wind and difficulty breathing when drinking water.
On September 10, his difficulty breathing became worse, his family took him to the Central Highlands General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with rabies and high blood pressure. On the same day, his family asked him to be discharged from the hospital and he died at home.
According to the family, about a month before being hospitalized, he was bitten by a stray dog in his left arm but did not get vaccinated against rabies. The dog later went missing, unidentified.
