Having asked to stop treatment to return to his hometown to live for the last days of his life because he could no longer meet the treatment requirements, Mr. L.D.T (58 years old, living in An Phu Dong ward, Ho Chi Minh City) was spectacularly revived after the 10th liver transplant performed by doctors at Military Hospital 175.
After four years of fighting cirrhosis caused by hepatitis B, Mr. T. fell into critical condition: anti-herpetic necklace, gastrointestinal bleeding, expanded esophageal vein, body edema, digestive ulcers and blood clotting disorder. His body was exhausted, his lungs were overflowing, he had difficulty breathing, and he could not walk, so he was hospitalized many times for emergency care.
"There were times when patient T. was exhausted and had no longer faith in life. But the wife and grandchildren still do not give up hope," the representative of the treatment team shared.
Among the relatives who volunteered to donate liver, the nephew of patient T (male, 29 years old) had the most suitable biological index and bravely donated part of his liver to save him. After a period of active supportive treatment, the liver transplant surgery was performed in optimal conditions, mobilizing hundreds of doctors from many specialties. The surgery lasted for many hours, ending in a burst of tears when the liver blood vessels in full operation, the liver color returned to pink, and the revival signal arrived.
The success of the liver transplant not only saved the patient's life but also marked an important step forward for Military Hospital 175. With the completion of the technical transfer, the hospital will become the 8th medical facility in the country to be able to independently perform liver transplantation techniques, and at the same time, the leading organ transplant center of the Army in the Southern region.
