According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, this October high tide will peak on October 22 and 23, exceeding alert level 3 at many measuring stations along the Saigon River and canal system. High water levels combined with local heavy rain have caused many low-lying areas in Ho Chi Minh City.

From around 6pm, the tidal water in Thanh Da area began to rise rapidly, spreading all over the road. After just over 30 minutes, many sections were flooded more than half a wheel, affecting people's travel and daily activities.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Hanh (residing in Binh Quoi ward) said: "I have lived here for more than 20 years, every year when there are high tides, the water rises faster and much deeper today. This afternoon, it was just dark but the water had overflowed the door steps, so all the furniture had to be raised. The power had to be cut off because I was afraid of a short circuit."

Mr. Tran Minh Phu, a resident of Binh Quoi ward, shared: Once I get home from work at around 6pm, I immediately encounter water that is almost half a wheel deep. Vehicles stalled, everyone trampled. Every time the tide is high, it is like the northernmost Apricot".
