According to Lao Dong Newspaper on the evening of February 25, the temperature in the North dropped sharply and there was rain, outside the Emergency Center - Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi), hundreds of patients' families were still shaking and waiting on stone benches and hospital corridors.
Their belongings were just glitter, thin blankets and a few layers of jackets. Due to fatigue, many people fell asleep on the hospital's stone benches.
Sitting convulsively in a corner of the hallway of Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi), constantly rubbing her hands to reduce the splash of prices when the temperature was 12 degrees Celsius, Ms. Doan Thi Hong (52 years old, Thai Binh) said that when she heard that Hanoi was facing the cold wind, she prepared a thick cotton blanket and many warm clothes to take care of her husband to the hospital.
"My husband has meningitis, complications that cause seizures, and needs to be hospitalized urgently. All day long, I have been worried about the hospital bed, not knowing what to eat or drink. It was not until evening, when my stomach was too drunk, that I bought a temporary banh mi to cover my stomach" - Ms. Hong shared.
Ms. Hong said that she and her son took turns on duty at a hospital in Hanoi to be present when the doctor called. Therefore, she agreed to sleep right in the hospital lobby.
"The days without rain are still better, but recently it has been both rainy and cold, the wind has receded until the mind, making waiting outside the hospital even more miserable.
Many people take advantage of sleeping anywhere they can. Some people shivered on stone benches under the roof, while others sought shelter from the wind like under a pedestrian bridge. When it rained, everyone rushed to run everywhere to find shelter. I was very lucky to have a place to sleep in a lobby with a roof and no wind. The people coming later are much more struggling," said Ms. Hong.
She just hopes that in the coming days, the rain will be less, the cold will be less so that the patient's family can take advantage of the hardship.
To cope with the cold of cutting his skin and cutting his meat in recent days, Mr. Nguyen Van Dinh (35 years old, Vinh Phuc) had to buy more screens to have a place to lie on his back and sleep when tired.
"Due to urgent admission to the hospital, I did not have time to prepare many items. But the weather in Hanoi is getting colder, so I have to buy more tickets and some warm clothes, said Mr. Dinh.
He and a younger brother took turns being on duty at the hospital to take care of a family member in emergency care.
"We rented a cheap room outside to take turns resting. Today I stayed at the infirmary, tomorrow my younger brother will come to change shifts, and I will go to the rented room to sleep to save my energy," he shared.
